Environmental drivers of metapopulation dynamics throughout the full annual cycle in a declining Arctic‐nesting migratory herbivore

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We provide a framework for extending commonly used integrated population models to a metapopulation framework for testing novel ecological hypotheses about how changing environmental conditions within and among subpopulations drive changes in animal abundance.

US Consumer Appetite for Climate Claims on Beef Products: Does Country‐of‐Origin Matter?

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Beef cattle producers have been receiving pressure to reduce methane emissions from production. Beef products with varying climate claims have recently been introduced to the retail sector, stemming from various countries‐of‐origin. Using data from a US consumer survey, we find a subset of US consumers is willing to pay a premium for Lower ...

Wage reactions to regional and national unemployment

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This paper analyses the entire wage effects of unemployment for an especially long observation period. In a three‐step approach, the wage reaction at the national level (wage‐setting curve or aggregate wage equation) is added to the reaction at the regional level (wage curve). Spatial models with instrumental variables are used.

Estimating Causal Effects With Observational Data: Guidelines for Agricultural and Applied Economists

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Most research questions in agricultural and applied economics are causal in nature: they study how changes in one or more variables (such as policies, prices or weather) affect one or more other variables (e.g., income, crop yields or pollution).

Storage games

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study a long‐horizon, oligopolistic market with random shocks to demand that can be arbitraged by two storage operators with finite capacity. This problem applies to any storable commodity—that is, most commodities. Because the arbitrage spread is so sensitive to market power, storage operators face strong incentives to restrain quantities ...

Individualised niches in a variable environment—Consequences for environmental change responses

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Intraspecific trait variation (ITV) can be important for population performance in a variable and changing environment because individuals with different traits have different fitness responses. Furthermore, there are three mechanisms via which individuals can interact with their environment to potentially improve fitness: niche conformance ...

Reintroduction of an Endangered Butterfly, the Mottled Duskywing (Erynnis martialis)

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We reintroduced Mottled Duskywing (Erynnis martialis), an endangered skipper butterfly, at different life‐stages to restored oak savanna habitat in Ontario, Canada and then performed intensive post‐release monitoring. Our results show that, at one of three sites, a population was established within two years of initiating releases and that pupae and ...

Association of fully branded, standardized packaging and limited flavor and brand descriptors of e‐liquids with interest in trying products among youths in Great Britain

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 4, Page 620-628, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims Many vaping products feature bright colors and novel brand names and flavor descriptors, which may appeal to youth. We measured the strength of the associations between e‐liquid packaging design (branded, white standardized or white standardized limiting brand and flavor descriptors) and perceived peer interest in trying ...
