Variability of the Analysis of the Tear Meniscus Height by Optical Coherence Tomography

Optometry and Vision Science, 2007
ABSTRACT Purpose. Tear meniscus height (TMH) is an established parameter indicative of tear film volume and has recently been determined using an optical coherence tomographer (OCT). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the inter and intra observer variability in TMH assessment using OCT.

Comparison between graticule and image capture assessment of lower tear film meniscus height

Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, 2006
To compare graticule and image capture assessment of the lower tear film meniscus height (TMH).Lower tear film meniscus height measures were taken in the right eyes of 55 healthy subjects at two study visits separated by 6 months. Two images of the TMH were captured in each subject with a digital camera attached to a slit-lamp biomicroscope and stored ...

Tear Meniscus Height, Lower Punctum Lacrimale, and the Tear Lipid Layer in Normal Aging

Optometry and Vision Science, 2006
ABSTRACT Purpose. The purposes of this study are to investigate the tear meniscus height (TMH), lipid layer, and critical dimensions of the lower punctum lacrimale (DPL) in normal human subjects over a large age range; and to determine the shape and general characteristics of the lower punctum ...

Schirmer Test After Topical Anesthesia and the Tear Meniscus Height in Normal Eyes

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1979
The height of the inferior tear meniscus was measured in 86 normal eyes. A value greater than 0.1 mm was obtained in 93% of the eyes that were studied. However, attempts to correlate meniscus height with subsequent Schirmer test results showed that these measurements varied randomly.

Prospective Controlled Study of Vapor Pressure Tear Osmolality and Tear Meniscus Height in Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2006
To determine tear osmolality (TO) and tear meniscus height (TMH) in patients with functional (FNLDO) and primary acquired (PANDO) nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Additionally, to determine the effect of successful dacryocystorhinostomy surgery on these tear parameters.Prospective case-controlled interventional case series.Up to 20 microl of basal tears ...

Prominent Decrease of Tear Meniscus Height With Contact Lens Wear and Efficacy of Eye Drop Instillation

Eye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2015
To investigate the change in tear meniscus height (TMH) before and after wearing soft contact lenses (CLs) of different water contents (WCs) and the influence of eye drop instillation on TMH during CL wear.Tear meniscus heights were measured using anterior segment optical coherence tomography in 20 normal subjects wearing a high-WC CL (WC, 69%) in 1 ...

Video-assessment of tear meniscus height in elderly Caucasians and its relationship to the exposed ocular surface

Current Eye Research, 2001
An adequate volume of tears is considered essential to prevent desiccation of the exposed ocular surface, especially in elderly individuals. Few assessments of tear meniscus height (TMH) have however been reported for elderly individuals.Close-up images of the lower marginal tear strip were obtained by videography over about 30 s in 56 elderly ...

Assessment of punctal metrics and tear meniscus height in epiphora: clinical insights and diagnostic potential

Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology
To use anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to investigate differences in punctal dimensions, tear meniscus height (TMH), and cornea among epiphora patients and healthy individuals; to assess its utility in screening and diagnosing epiphora; and to examine its effects on the cornea.Prospective, cross-sectional METHODS: A total of 43 ...

Does the palpebral morphology influence the tear meniscus height between Caucasian and Asian eyes?

Optometry and Vision Science
SIGNIFICANCE The tear meniscus height (TMH) along the lid margin is a clinical measure in the evaluation of patients with dry eyes and contact lens wearers. The morphology of the eyelid may differ among ethnic groups, potentially impacting the meniscus height, which can be useful for clinicians to optimize ...
