Traumatic spinal cord injury caused by suspected hyperflexion of the atlantoaxial joint in a 10-year-old cat

open access: yesJournal of Feline Medicine and Surgery Open Reports, 2015
Case summary A 10-year-old cat presented 5 days after a traumatic event with acute recumbency followed by some clinical improvement. The neuroanatomical localisation was the C1–C5 spinal cord segments. Initial survey radiographs, including lateral flexed

Spatially Regulated Silicon Clusters in Trimodal Composite Anodes for High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A trimodal anode architecture spatially regulates silicon clusters within confined interstitial environments formed by graphite and contorted hexabenzocoronene. This confinement suppresses silicon aggregation and localized stress while enabling efficient Li‐ion transport, achieving high‐capacity, stable lithium‐ion batteries.

Designing Vanadium‐Based Oxide Electrocatalysts for Water Splitting: Experimental and Mechanistic Insights with Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review establishes structure‐property‐mechanism relationships across six modification strategies for V‐based oxide water‐splitting electrocatalysts: lattice engineering, heteroatom doping, interface engineering, carbon‐based hybridization, morphology engineering, and surface reconstruction and pre‐catalyst design, where dissolution is reframed as ...

Decoupling the Size and Loading Effects in Silver Nanoparticles for Efficient Paired Carbon Dioxide and Formaldehyde Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We investigate size‐dependent CO selectivity on Ag nanoparticles, where optimized Ag loading achieves nearly 100% Faradaic Efficiency for CO at −100 mA·cm−2. In situ SERS and XPS reveal the crucial role of optimized loading in catalytic performance. The Ag/C catalyst further exhibits bifunctional activity, enabling efficient electrolysis of CO2 and ...

Self‐Assembled Crystalline Peptoid Nanomaterials as Metal‐Free Enzyme Mimics for Enhanced Carbon Dioxide Hydration and Precipitation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by metal‐free carbonic anhydrases (CAs) that achieve efficient catalysis without metal cofactors, we herein report a sequence‐defined supramolecular peptoid platform that mimics metal‐free CAs and exhibits hydrolytic activity via a supramolecular assembly‐mediated proton‐transfer mechanism.

Stereometric Molecular Engineering for Ultra‐Stable Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Stereochemical configuration of molecular additives greatly influences interfacial adsorption at the Zn surface. The optimal tilted dual‐anchored adsorption geometry of myo‐inositol constructs a water‐deficient interface and regulates the solvation structure.

Comparison of the On-disk Apparent Current Sheets with the Limb Ones

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Based on observations from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), we investigate 30 apparent current sheets during 1999–2021, including 10 on-disk and 8 limb ones from the SDO, as well as 12 limb ones from

D Resistive MHD Simulations of Magnetic Reconnection and the Tearing Mode Instability in Current Sheets

open access: yes, 2008
International audienceMagnetic reconnection plays a critical role in many astrophysical processes where high energy emission is observed, e.g. particle acceleration, relativistic accretion powered outflows, pulsar winds and probably in dissipation of ...

Covalent Functionalization of 2D Semiconductors: A Roadmap to Advanced Electronic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Review presents recent advances in the covalent functionalization strategies for two‐dimensional semiconductors and their implementation in modern technologies. Layered materials are modified through diverse molecular chemistries (e.g., thiols, diazonium salts, alkyl halides, and electron‐deficient species) to tailor their surface properties ...
