These two metals are less well known than many other of the second- and third-row transition metals, although interest in rhenium chemistry has recently increased. Technetium, as its name suggests, is an artifically produced element, the only such among all the d transition metals.

Technetium Complexes with Triazacyclononane
Inorganic Chemistry, 2006[NBu4][TcOCl4] reacts with ethylene glycol and 1,4,7-triazacyclononane (tacn) in MeOH under the formation of the deep-blue oxotechnetium(V) cation [TcO(OC2H4O)(tacn)]+, which can readily be oxidized by air to give the stable technetium(VII) compound [TcO3(tacn)]+.

The detection of a number of impurities in 99m Tc effluents from 99 Mo generators is important for proper use of the generator systems. Their identification is described in this review. Technetium in sulfur colloid is probably present as Tc 2 S 7 .

The chemistry of the technetium-sulfur colloid produced by the reaction of sodium thiosulfate with acid was investigated. A commercial kit was duplicated, and analyses of elemental sulfur, bisulfite and residual thiosulfate were carried out. The colloidal dispersions were filtered through Nuclepore graded membranes, and the percentages of sulfur and of

Environmental technetium is an important radioelement to which consideration must be given in order to guarantee safety in nuclear waste disposal. Various analysis methods for micro and ultramicro quantities of technetium are being developed and their merits and demerits are being evaluated.
