Preoperative Technetium Tc 99m Sestamibi Imaging: Paving the Way to Minimal-Access Parathyroid Surgery

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1996
To examine the reliability of technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scanning as a new adjunct to the surgical management of hyperparathyroidism.Preoperative localization of parathyroid adenoma by technetium Tc 99m sestamibi delayed washing-out scanning and high-resolution ultrasound was compared with a historical institutional experience of surgical intervention

Improving the yield of preoperative parathyroid localization: Technetium Tc 99m-sestamibi imaging after thyroid suppression

Surgery, 2002
Preoperative localization is essential for successful directed, minimally invasive or reoperative parathyroidectomy. Standard technetium Tc 99m-sestamibi imaging is the most sensitive modality for localization. We reviewed our experience with (99m)Tc-sestamibi imaging and specifically investigated the effect of thyroid suppression on repeat imaging of ...

Use of Technetium Tc 99m Sestamibi Scintigraphy for Recurrent Tertiary Hyperparathyroidism From a Parathyroid Forearm Graft

Southern Medical Journal, 2000
Technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scintigraphy is a sensitive technique for localizing recurrent parathyroid disease in the neck or mediastinum. We report the case of a 60-year-old woman with recurrent tertiary hyperparathyroidism after total parathyroidectomy.

Successful removal of a functional parathyroid adenoma using a radio‐guided parathyroidectomy technique with a hand‐held gamma detector and technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scintigraphy in a horse

Equine Veterinary Education, 2022
Summary This clinical case report details the use of a radio‐guided parathyroidectomy technique using a hand‐held gamma detector and technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scintigraphy for detection and removal of a functional parathyroid adenoma in a horse.

Use of technetium Tc 99m sestamibi for detection of a parathyroid adenoma in a dog with primary hyperparathyroidism

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1996
Double-phase parathyroid gland scintigraphy, using technetium Tc 99m sestamibi, correctly identified the existence and location of a parathyroid adenoma in a dog with primary hyperparathyroidism. The parathyroid adenoma was removed surgically 2 days after scintigraphy.

Predicting the effect of intravenous calcitriol on parathyroid gland activity using double-phase technetium Tc 99m-sestamibi scintigraphy

American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 2004
Although intravenous calcitriol is useful for decreasing intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) blood levels in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHP) undergoing hemodialysis, approximately half these patients remain refractory to this treatment.

Teohnetium Tc 99m Sestamibi Scan for Localizing Abnormal Parathyroid Glands After Previous Neck Operations

Southern Medical Journal, 1995
We used technetium Tc 99m sestamibi for successful preoperative localization of abnormal parathyroid glands in nine patients with hyperparathyroidism and a history of neck surgery. The intraoperative and pathological findings were correlated with the preoperative technetium-sestamibi scan results. These nine patients had had 13 previous neck operations,

A False-Positive Localization of a Parathyroid Adenoma With Technetium Tc 99m Sestamibi Scan Secondary to a Thyroid Follicular Carcinoma

Archives of Surgery, 1996
Using technetium Tc 99m sestamibi for localization of a parathyroid adenoma in primary hyperparathyroidism, we describe the first reported case of increased uptake due to a thyroid follicular carcinoma. Prior false-positive results have been reported exclusively with follicular adenomas.

P168 Parathyroidectomy in Patients With Primary Hyperparathyroidism and Negative Findings on Technetium Tc 99m Sestamibi Localization Scan

Archives of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, 2006
Objective: Branchiogenic carcinoma is a controversial entity. Some authors believe that the reported cases reflect cystic degeneration of metastatic lymph nodes rather than a primary tumor arising from cyst epithelium. In a previous study, we found evidence of normal epithelium within malignant cysts in 2 cases of possible branchiogenic carcinoma.
