Dynamic Technical Efficiency

2016
Dynamic panels with non-Gaussian errors suffer from the incidental parameter bias. Simulations show that an indirect inference estimation approach provides bias correction for the model and distribution parameters. The indirect confidence set inference method is size correct and exhibits good coverage properties even for asymmetric confidence regions ...

Technical efficiency of production in agricultural research

Scientometrics, 1999
We define and model research production at Embrapa, the major Brazilian institution responsible for applied agricultural research. The main theoretical framework used is Data Envelopment Analysis — DEA. The economic interpretation of these models is explored to assess scale, congestion and cost efficiencies.

Efficiency of trucks in logistics: technical efficiency and scale efficiency

Asian Journal on Quality, 2010
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose a scheme to estimate the technical efficiency of trucks engaged in logistics and to analyze the properties of efficiency. The objectives are to determine individual‐truck level technical efficiency using both radial and non‐radial measures for freight trucks, to calculate the degree of input overuse.Design/

Measuring the technical efficiency of psychiatric hospitals

Journal of Medical Systems, 1996
The purpose of this study was to assess the efficiency of psychiatric hospitals. Data Envelopment Analysis was used to examine the technical efficiency for sample of the 85 profit and not-for-profit psychiatric hospitals. Results suggests reduction of excessive resource use by all inefficient facilities would result, on average, in a $7.2 million ...

Education and Technical Efficie [PDF]

open access: possibleThe Pakistan Development Review, 1988
It is now well recognized that education expedites the process of growth in an economy. In agriculture, leaving aside the external effects, it affects productivity in two quite distinct ways known as the allocative effect and the worker effect (Welch" 1970).

DECOMPOSING TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY AND WINDOW ANALYSIS

Studies in Economics and Finance, 2004
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and window analysis are used to follow the changes in Australian trading banks' pure technical efficiency, scale efficiency, and the nature of returns to scale. The main findings indicate declining average efficiency scores until 1991, followed by a steady rise thereafter. Pure technical inefficiency emerges as a greater

An extended farrell technical efficiency measure

Journal of Economic Theory, 1984
When the efficient subsets and isoquants of the input level sets of a production technology are not equal, the conventional Debreu-Farrell efficiency index is not a reliable indicator of the efficiency of inputs usage. On the other hand, it possesses the property of being homogeneous of degree minus one in the inputs whose efficiency level is being ...

Technical Change and Efficiency in Irish Agriculture [PDF]

open access: possibleEconomic and Social Review, 2001
This paper calculates average technical efficiency levels and rates of technical change for Irish agriculture using an unbalanced panel of 2,603 farms drawn from the Irish National Farm Survey over the period 1984 to 1998. An average technical efficiency level of between 65 and 70 per cent with a slight upward trend over the period was found.

Technical Change and Efficiency

1995
Technical change plays a central role in dynamic economics. Economic theory considers technology as the main driving force behind economic growth of capitalist economies. From an economic viewpoint three aspects of technical change have been discussed as important in the current economic literature.
