The Role of Trade in Technology Diffusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
This paper develops a two-country model in which trade is central to the process by which technology diffuses from the innovating country (North) to the backward country (South). Innovation in North leads to the introduction of higher-quality equipment goods that South can import only after some resources have been spent to adapt those equipment goods ...

Adenosine triphosphate as a modulator of protein interactions and stability

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ATP is best known as the cell's energy currency, but it also shapes how proteins fold, interact, aggregate and form biomolecular condensates. This review explains the emerging physical principles behind these effects, including weak binding to charged protein regions, magnesium‐dependent behaviour and concentration‐dependent control of protein ...

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

Adoption and Diffusion of Blockchain Technology

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal
A widespread approach to measuring the innovative capacity of companies, sectors, and regions is the analysis of patents and trademarks or the use of surveys. In emerging digital technologies this approach may, however, not be sufficient for mapping technology diffusion.

Identification and characterisation of calcitonin receptor isoforms expressed in glioblastoma derived glioma stem and U‐87 MG cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma cells express calcitonin receptor variants (CT receptor isoforms) that may help them survive stress. Using qPCR, transcript‐specific long‐read nanopore sequencing, immunofluorescence co‐localisation and comparative sequence analysis, this study identifies a novel alternatively spliced CALCR transcript that encodes the CTb receptor isoform ...

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Brazilian university technology transfer to rural areas Transferência de tecnologia de universidades brasileiras na área rural

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2010
In agriculture, there is a difference between average yield obtained by farmers and crop potential. There is technology available to increase yields, but not all farmers have access to it and/or use this information.

The C‐terminal truncated splicing variant of NK1R negatively modulates substance P‐stimulated NK1R signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The neurokinin 1 receptor exists as full‐length (NK1L) and C‐terminally truncated (NK1S) splice variants. We show that NK1S heterodimerizes with NK1L, impairing Gαq coupling and Ca2+ mobilization while enhancing β‐arrestin1 recruitment. NK1S suppresses substance P‐driven gene expression and cell migration, revealing NK1S as an endogenous biased ...

MARK4 enhances stress granule formation under oxidative stress and increases tau accumulation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MARK4 (red dots) localizes to stress granules (orange dots) and promotes their formation under oxidative stress by modulating TIA1 (blue dots). MARK4 and TIA1 synergistically increase tau (purple) accumulation, and the reduction of the TIA1 ortholog suppresses neurodegeneration in a fly model.
