The Technosignature before SETI

open access: yes
The technosignature has a prehistory. Indeed, there is a history of the technosignature before SETI. And it long predates the invention of the radio telescope. Here I draw from research related to my book-in-progress, The Astrobiological Turn, to sketch a genealogy of the technosignature.

The FAST-SETI Milky Way Globular Cluster Survey. I. A Pilot Multibeam On-the-fly Search of Five Globular Clusters at the L Band

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We report a narrowband technosignature search toward five Milky Way globular clusters—NGC 6171, NGC 6218, NGC 6254, NGC 6838, and IC 1276—using Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST)’s 19 beam L -band receiver (1.05–1.45 GHz).

An Improved Machine Learning Approach for Radio Frequency Interference Mitigation in FAST–SETI Survey Archival Data

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) commensal surveys aim to scan the sky to detect technosignatures from extraterrestrial life. A major challenge in SETI is the effective mitigation of radio frequency interference (RFI), a critical step ...

Looking for technosignatures using the brain and Artificial Intelligence

open access: yes, 2020
Technosignatures involves the detection of radio signals, lasers, atmospheric pollution, radiation leakage from megastructures or sidereal installations such as Dyson spheres, Shkadov thrusters with the power to alter the orbits of stars around the Galactic Centre, etc.

Technosignature Searches of Interstellar Objects

open access: yes
With the discovery of the third confirmed interstellar object (ISO), 3I/ATLAS, we have entered a new phase in the exploration of these long-predicted objects. Though confirmed discovery of ISOs is quite recent, their utility as targets in the search for technosignatures (historically known as the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence -- SETI) has ...

Yuti: A General-purpose Transit Simulator for Arbitrary Shaped Objects Orbiting Stars

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present a versatile transit simulator ( Yuti ) aimed at generating light curves for arbitrarily shaped objects transiting stars. Utilizing a Monte Carlo algorithm, it accurately models the stellar flux blocked by these objects, producing precise light

Detecting Extraterrestrial Civilizations that Employ an Earth-level Deep Space Network

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
A major aspect of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) involves searching for electromagnetic transmissions from extraterrestrial sources, often using our own transmissions as a guide.
