Chilling and Heat Requirements of Temperate Stone Fruit Trees (Prunus sp.)

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
Stone fruit trees of genus Prunus, like other temperate woody species, need to accumulate a cultivar-specific amount of chilling during endodormancy, and of heat during ecodormancy to flower properly in spring.

Instantaneous and non-destructive relative water content estimation from deep learning applied to resonant ultrasonic spectra of plant leaves

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2019
Background Non-contact resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (NC-RUS) has been proven as a reliable technique for the dynamic determination of leaf water status. It has been already tested in more than 50 plant species.

Chemometric and Physico-Chemical Characterization of Fruit and Olive Oils from Autochthonous Cultivars Grown in Aragon (Spain)

open access: yesFoods, 2023
Olive tree crops and the olive oil market are becoming less and less diverse due to the rise of intensive growth varieties, with the consequent loss of varietal richness provided by oils from minority and autochthonous cultivars. “Royal de Calatayud” and

Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

Effects of soil salinity on the quality of ‘Arbequina' olive oil

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2005
This work analyzes the effect of soil salinity on olive oil quality. The chemical composition of oils extracted from young ‘Arbequina' olives subject in the field to three soil salinity levels (low-L, medium-M and high-H) was determined throughout a ...

Hydrophobic MFI‐Type Zeolites via Alkali‐Cation‐Induced Defect Healing: Implications for Adsorbent and Catalyst Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Sub‐stoichiometric amounts of Na+ or K+ enhance defect healing during Silicalite‐1 (MFI) and TS‐1 calcination by promoting Si–O–Si annealing and healing framework vacancies. The resulting defect‐free zeolites are more hydrophobic and show improved butanol/water separation and improved activity and selectivity in the epoxidation of 1‐hexene, offering a ...

Chemical composition of olive oils from Arbequina and Empeltre varieties grown in irrigation

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2009
This study examines the composition of oils extracted from young olive trees of the Arbequina and Empeltre varieties grown with irrigation in the same farm throughout a period of three seasons.

Hamaker Constants of van der Waals Materials under Clean‐Interface Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Clean‐interface adhesion in representative van der Waals materials is quantified by Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) with in situ cleaning and calibrated probes. Benchmark Hamaker constants for graphene, MoS2, and SiO2 are established, while humidity is shown to reversibly amplify adhesion, explaining much of the scatter in ...
