Size, Spines, and Nests: What Drives Variation in Death‐Feigning Behavior in Fungus‐Farming Ants?
We investigated death‐feigning (DF; thanatosis) in fungus‐farming ants, testing how stimulus intensity, morphology, and nest traits shape its occurrence and duration using generalized linear mixed models. Stronger stimuli increased both likelihood and duration, but most variation was structured across species, colonies, and individuals.

Disturbance from fire mediates a potential ecophysiological trade‐off between adult performance and juvenile recruitment in the microendemic lizard Ameivula jalapensis. While open, burned habitats enhance adult thermoregulation and condition, unburned patches remain critical for juvenile thermal optima.

Caffeic acid is a central metabolite in the fungal bioluminescence pathway. We identified and characterized caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from Neonothopanus gardneri (ngarCPH) and demonstrate its ability to hydrolyze fungal oxyluciferin into caffeic and pyruvic acids, confirming a complete and self‐sustained fungal bioluminescence cycle.
