Nonlinear optical properties of Au-nanoparticles conjugated with lipoic acid in water [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2014
Gold nanoparticles were chemically conjugated with lipoic acid to control their optical properties. Z-scan and other optical techniques were used to characterize the non-linear behavior of the resulting nanostructured materials. The results show that the

Quantifying urban tree canopy cooling capacity using Bayesian hierarchical models and satellite imagery

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 338-352, January 2026.
Cities are getting hotter because of climate change and urban development, increasing risks to health and well‐being. We analyzed how increasing urban tree canopy cover in city areas of 900 m2 can reduce land surface temperatures, using detailed aerial‐LiDAR and satellite data with Bayesian hierarchical models.

Cosmic Ray Counting Variability From Water‐Cherenkov Detectors as a Proxy of Stratospheric Conditions in Antarctica

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 12, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract This work examines atmospheric effects on cosmic ray counts observed by a Water‐Cherenkov detector at the Argentine Antarctic Marambio Station. We analyze the influence of ground‐level barometric pressure and geopotential height at various pressure levels on daily particle rates, finding the strongest association at 100 hPa, linked to ...

Non‐invasive characterization of melanoma depth at single‐cell resolution

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 39, Issue 11, Page 1945-1954, November 2025.
Non‐invasive determination of Breslow depth would be beneficial for the clinical management of melanoma. We demonstrate that RSOM can achieve non‐invasive imaging of single melanocytes up to several millimetres in tissue. A pilot clinical study showed a high degree of correlation between RSOM and the standard for Breslow depth determination.

Skeleton‐Based Posture Recognition for Home Care From Virtual Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

open access: yesExpert Systems, Volume 42, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT This article presents a novel approach for real‐time posture recognition in monitoring scenarios, utilising a virtual camera simulated on a UAV within virtual environments. Leveraging the MediaPipe Pose library, key points of the body skeleton are extracted, focusing on a subset of 8 key points for computational efficiency.

Chasing Charge Carriers: Diffusion Dynamics in Mixed‐n Quasi‐2D Colloidal MAPbBr3 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 34, August 22, 2025.
Metal halide perovskites are noted for their tunable optical properties. Colloidal synthesis allows the formation of differently shaped perovskite nanocrystals with varying optical and carrier transport behavior. Three MAPbBr3 morphologies are characterized: nanoplatelets, nanosheets, and nanostripes.

Hybrid SiO2/Si pillar‐based optomechanical crystals for on‐chip photonic integration

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 14, Issue 17, Page 2953-2961, August 2025.
Abstract One‐dimensional photonic crystal (1D‐PhC) pillar cavities allow transducing mechanical pillar vibrations to the optical domain, thereby relaxing the requirements typically associated with mechanical motion detection. In this study, we integrate these geometries into a silicon‐on‐insulator photonics platform and explore their optical and ...
