Building a Continental‐Scale Geodetic Network: The Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO)

open access: yesPerspectives of Earth and Space Scientists, Volume 7, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract The Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) transformed the use of geodesy in North America to study crustal deformation and plate boundary processes by establishing a continental‐scale, standardized, open‐access geodetic network. Built and operated by UNAVCO between 2003 and 2018 as part of the National Science Foundation (NSF)‐funded EarthScope ...

Variations in the Characteristic Amplitude of Tectonic Tremor Induced by Long-Term Slow Slip Events [PDF]

open access: yes
Long-term slow slip events (L-SSEs) often excite short-term slow slips events (S-SSEs) and tectonic tremor in the zone of episodic tremor and slip (ETS).

Cascadia Slow Earthquake Behaviors Modulated by Tectonic and Environmental Forcings

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Slow earthquakes, including episodic tremor and slip (ETS), are highly sensitive to small stress perturbations, yet their links to tectonic and non‐tectonic forcings remain unclear.

Preliminary geological evidence for multiple tremors in Kwoi, Central Nigeria

open access: yesGeoenvironmental Disasters, 2020
Preliminary field assessment of the geological evidence for the September 2016 multiple tremors was felt as far as 10 km in Nok and Chori villages in the north and northwest of Kwoi respectively.

The 2 May 2025 Mw 7.4 Drake Passage Earthquake: Insights Into Tectonics at the Shackleton Fracture Zone–Chilean Trench Transition

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract On 2 May 2025, an Mw 7.4 earthquake occurred ∼120 km off the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego, at the transition of the Shackleton Fracture Zone and the Chile Trench. This event exhibits reverse‐faulting mechanisms with relatively steeply dipping planes and is the largest recorded along this complex plate boundary.

Near‐continuous tremor and low‐frequency earthquake activities in the Alaska‐Aleutian subduction zone revealed by a mini seismic array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tectonic tremor and low-frequency earthquakes (LFEs) are relatively poorly studied in the Alaska-Aleutian subduction zone due to the limited data availability, difficult logistics, and rugged terrain.

Possible Shallow Tectonic Tremor Signals Near the Deformation Front in Central Cascadia

open access: yesSeismica
To better constrain the locking state of the shallow Cascadia megathrust, we investigate whether shallow tectonic tremor occurs near the deformation front at ~44.5°N during 2015-2024. We focus on two cabled buried ocean bottom seismometers (OBSs) on the

Patch Interactions on a Heterogeneous Fault Drive Nearby Slow and Fast Earthquakes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Tectonic tremor and repeating/regular earthquakes off Iwate in the shallow Japan Trench occur episodically and in spatially overlapping areas, implying a common aseismic driver. We investigate how small aseismic slip triggers events across multiple slip‐rate regimes using fully dynamic earthquake‐cycle simulations governed by rate‐and‐state ...

Induced Seismic Events—Distribution of Ground Surface Displacements Based on InSAR Methods and Mogi and Yang Models

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
In this article, we present a possible approach to use satellite radar data for a complete description of the formation process of a subsidence trough resulting from an induced seismic event—a mining tremor.

A Unified Quadratic Scaling Relation Between Potency and Local Earthquake Magnitudes for −1.8 ≤ ML ≤ 7.5

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Quantifying earthquake size across scales requires linking physical source parameters to empirical magnitude measures, especially for microearthquakes where attenuation, scattering, and instrumental limitations complicate source characterization.
