On 24 December 2018, a violent eruption started at Mount Etna from a fissure on the southeastern flank. The intrusive phenomenon, accompanied by intense Strombolian and lava fountain activity, an ash‐rich plume, and lava flows, was marked by significant ...

Abstract To explore mechanisms of rupture segmentation, we invert coseismic GNSS offsets for the 2025 Mw 7.6 Aomori, Japan earthquake. Our preferred curved‐fault solution images a compact thrust rupture at 25–50 km depth with peak slip ∼2.5 m near 35 km.

Statistical characteristics of non-volcanic tremor distributions along the Mexican Subduction Zone [PDF]
We analyze the statistical characteristics of non-volcanic tremor (NVT) sequences in the Mexican subduction zone. To this end, we employ various techniques, including the Gutenberg–Richter relationship, non-extensive statistics, and multifractal ...

To improve our understanding of the long-term behavior of low-frequency earthquakes (LFEs) along the tremor belt of the Nankai subduction zone, we applied a matched filter technique to continuous seismic data recorded by a dense and highly sensitive ...

Back‐Propagating Earthquake Rupture Controlled by Fluid‐Modulated Effective Normal Stress
Abstract Back‐propagating earthquake rupture (BPR), where slip migrates opposite to the main rupture direction, is observed in several earthquakes but its origin remains poorly understood, particularly the role of fluids. We use dynamic simulations of frictional sliding coupled with fluids to explore the mechanisms of BPR. Our simulations show that BPR

The properties and rheology of subduction zones have been intensively studied to forecast potential megathrust earthquake scenarios. However, in Cascadia, the absence of recent megathrust events limits available seismic evidence.

Simultaneous activations of slow slip events (SSEs) and tectonic tremors are observed along subduction zones, and collectively referred to as episodic tremor and slip (ETS).

Does Episodic Tremor and Slip Influence Seismicity in Northern Cascadia?
This paper presents a spatial-temporal analysis of potential links between episodic tremor and slip (ETS) and seismicity in northern Cascadia. We define spatial-temporal clusters of tremor episodes to represent ETS between 2006 and 2024, and we merge ...

On the predictability of volcano-tectonic events by low frequency seismic noise analysis at Teide-Pico Viejo volcanic complex, Canary Islands [PDF]
The island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), is showing possible signs of reawakening after its last basaltic strombolian eruption, dated 1909 at Chinyero. The main concern relates to the central active volcanic complex Teide - Pico Viejo, which poses

The Marsili Volcanic Seamount (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea): A Potential Offshore Geothermal Resource
Italy has a strong geothermal potential for power generation, although, at present, the only two geothermal fields being exploited are Larderello-Travale/Radicondoli and Mt. Amiata in the Tyrrhenian pre-Apennine volcanic district of Southern Tuscany.
