ABSTRACT Aim The study of the structure of species assemblages has typically assumed that similar environments share common species; however, interacting biogeographic and phylogenetic processes are equally important. The understanding that ecological processes operate at different spatial scales to shape species assemblages led to the concept of ...

Slab Tearing and Break‐Off Revealed by the 2024 M7.4 Taiwan Earthquake
Abstract Subduction zone earthquakes typically occur along plate interfaces or within subducting slabs, but rupture mechanisms at mixed collision–subduction boundaries remain poorly understood. The 2024 Mw 7.4 Hualien earthquake struck the suture between the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate in eastern Taiwan.

Abstract Premise Comparative surveys allow us to characterize the influence of specific factors on population genetic diversity and structure. We conducted a comparative phylogeographic study for three Mexican oak species to identify how their climatic niche preferences and breadth may have influenced historical demography and range shifts during ...

Recent research has ignited a renewed interest in Ceratozamia cycads, unveiling their remarkable diversity. While previous studies primarily focused on morphology, this investigation employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating phylogenetics, morphology, and ecological niches. Our methods identify seven distinct lineages as separate species.

Investigating the systematics and biogeography of Neotropical catfishes of the genus Rhamdia refined phylogenetic hypotheses, including deep paraphyly of Rhamdia laticauda, supported northward dispersal catalyzed by emergence of the Panamanian Isthmus and imply that cave colonization is widespread, convergent, and recent, with established cave‐dwelling
