Tellina magna found in Orkney [PDF]
DURING Easter 1947, an inspection was made of the seaweed cast up on the west mainland of Orkney. One heavy cast, 3 ft. thick at the water's edge, was found in a sandy bay north of the graveyard northwest of Stromness and opposite the northern extremity of Hoy. The coast is rocky with sandy bays.

Tidal shifts in the vertical distribution of bivalve larvae: Vertical advection vs. active behavior
Abstract Some previous studies, though not all, have reported that vertical distributions of bivalve larvae shift upward in the water column on flood tides and downward on ebb tides. When observed, such shifts have been interpreted as reflecting the vertical migration of larvae (i.e., an active behavioral process).

ABSTRACT An S‐RNase‐based gametophytic self‐incompatibility (GSI) system, a mechanism that forces outbreeding by preventing self‐fertilization, characterizes the genus Malus. Knowledge of the self‐incompatibility (S) genotypes of apple cultivars is crucial for choosing pollen donors for fruit production and breeding.
