Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

Tempered stable distributions and processes in finance: numerical analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Most of the important models in finance rest on the assumption that randomness is explained through a normal random variable. However there is ample empirical evidence againstthe normality assumption, since stockreturns are heavy-tailed, leptokurtic and skewed.

Controlling Grain Growth in Powder Bed Fusion of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia Using Femtosecond Lasers: Challenges and Methodological Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Binder‐free laser powder bed fusion of 8YSZ with a femtosecond laser is used to map process windows linking scan strategy, heat accumulation, and grain growth. Time‐resolved thermography and simulations reveal thermal regimes that enable continuous, vitrified, and fine‐grained 8YSZ surface layers without absorptive additives and demonstrate ...

Simulation‐Based Analysis of Insert Pull‐Out in Nickel‐Polyurethane Hybrid Foams Using CT‐Derived Geometries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
CT‐based finite element simulations combined with in situ X‐ray computed tomography are used to analyze insert pull‐out in nickel‐coated polymer foams. Despite variations in material parameters, deformation consistently concentrates within a narrow annular region around the insert.

Infinite Variation Tempered Stable Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Processes with Discrete Observations

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate transition law between consecutive observations of Ornstein– Uhlenbeck processes of infinite variation with tempered stable stationary distribution.

Influence of TiC and TiN Ceramic Reinforcements on the Microstructure, Thermal Expansion Behavior, and Tensile Properties of Invar 36 Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines Invar composites reinforced with titanium carbide (TiC) and titanium nitride (TiN) using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). It presents the influence of reinforcements on microstructure, tensile properties, and thermal expansion. Results show that TiC effectively strengthens Invar while maintaining low thermal expansion, whereas TiN ...

A Unified Phenomenological Model Captures Water Equilibrium and Kinetic Processes in Soil

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Soil water sustains life on Earth, and how to quantify water equilibrium and kinetics in soil remains a challenge for over a century despite significant efforts.

Measures of dependence for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes with tempered stable distribution [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we investigate the dependence structure for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes with totally skewed tempered stable structure. They are natural extension of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes with stable (and Gaussian) distribution.

Rapidly Solidified High‐Strength Invar 36 Prepared by Planar‐Flow Melt Spinning

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The Invar 36 alloy was rapidly solidified using the planar‐flow melt‐spinning technique. Ribbon samples with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 160 mm were produced. As the grain size of the ribbon decreased to sub‐micron levels, the hardness increased by more than 2 times.

Calibration of the subdiffusive arithmetic Brownian motion with tempered stable waiting-times [PDF]

open access: yes
In the classical analysis many models used to real data description are based on the standard Brownian diffusion-type processes. However, some real data exhibit characteristic periods of constant values.
