Effects of Tempering Temperature on Mechanical and Tribological Behavior of Ductile Iron

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
The mechanical properties and tribological behavior of ductile iron tempered at different temperatures were investigated. The tempered sample was composed of spheroidal graphite, α phase, and carbides.

Synergetic Effects of Ferrite Content and Tempering Temperature on Mechanical Properties of a 960 MPa Grade HSLA Steel. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel), 2018
The synergetic effects of ferrite content and tempering temperature on the mechanical properties of a Q960E steel have been investigated in detail to obtain the optimal combination of strength, ductility, and toughness for ultrahigh strength steels ...

Understanding the microstructural evolution and fretting wear behaviors of M50 bearing steel heat treated at different temperatures

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
For M50 bearing steel, which is widely used in aerospace engine main bearings, fretting wear is an important but neglected category of wear failure during engine cold startup.

Tempering of Low-Temperature Bainite [PDF]

open access: yesMetallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2017
AbstractElectron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and atom probe tomography have been used to identify the changes which occur during the tempering of a carbide-free bainitic steel transformed at 473 K (200 °C). Partitioning of solute between ferrite and thin-films of retained austenite was observed on tempering at 673 K (400 °C) for 30 minutes.

Weight-Preserving Simulated Tempering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Simulated tempering is popular method of allowing MCMC algorithms to move between modes of a multimodal target density {\pi}. One problem with simulated tempering for multimodal targets is that the weights of the various modes change for different ...

Temperature of a Temperate Glacier [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 1972
AbstractThe closure of water-filled glacier bore holes is considered and it is concluded that freezing due to conduction to the surrounding ice is usually the dominant process. On this basis englacial temperatures are obtained from a bore hole near the equilibrium line of Blue Glacier, U.S.A., where the ice thickness is about 125 m.

High-Temperature Tempered Martensite Embrittlement in Quenched-and-Tempered Offshore Steels [PDF]

open access: yesMetals, 2017
Embrittlement induced by high-temperature tempering was investigated in two quenched-and-tempered offshore steels. Electron backscattering diffraction and analysis of Kernel average misorientation were applied to study the coalescence of martensite; transmission Kikuchi diffraction coupled with compositional mapping was used to characterize the ...

Tempering Temperature Changes for Robust Development [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2014
Developmental signaling pathways needed to evolve to be robust against environmental fluctuations. In this issue, Shimizu et al. reveal a complex system of interacting endocytic pathways that help to maintain consistent levels of Notch activity across a range of temperatures.
