Patterning Microsphere Surfaces by Templating Colloidal Crystals

By using the upper single or double layers in colloidal crystals as masks during Au vapor deposition, various Au patterns have been successfully constructed on the surfaces of the lower spheres. The dimension and geometry of the Au patterns obtained are dependent on the orientation of the colloidal crystal templates.

This paper addresses the problem of reconstructing a deforming surface from point observations in a monocular video sequence. Recent state-of-the-art approaches divide the surface into smaller patches to simplify the problem. Among these, one very promising approach reconstructs the patches individually using a quadratic deformation model.

Template-directed polynucleotide synthesis on mineral surfaces

Ferric hydroxide, a plausible prebiotic material, strongly adsorbs polynucleotides. We show that adsorption on ferric hydroxide and on several other minerals has no effect, under the conditions studied, on the template-directed oligomerization of guanylic acid on polycytidylic acid.
