Spatial and temporal control of RNA stability [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2001
Maternally encoded RNAs and proteins program the early development of all animals. A subset of the maternal transcripts is eliminated from the embryo before the midblastula transition. In certain cases, transcripts are protected from degradation in a subregion of the embryonic cytoplasm, thus resulting in transcript localization ...

Temporal Instability Analysis of Injury Severities for Angle and Non-Angle Crashes at Roundabouts

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Roundabout crashes are common worldwide but have received little attention. In particular, the investigation remains relatively understudied in distinct collision modes of roundabout crashes, including angle and non-angle crashes. This study investigates

Temporal Stability of Grazed Grassland Ecosystems Alters Response to Climate Variability, While Resistance Stability Remains Unchanged

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Environmental change is a crucial driver shaping grassland biodiversity and stability. Both environmental change and stability contain multiple dimensions.

Temporal stability of chimpanzee social culture [PDF]

open access: yesBiology Letters, 2021
Culture is a hallmark of the human species, both in terms of the transmission of material inventions (e.g. tool manufacturing) and the adherence to social conventions (e.g. greeting mannerisms). While material culture has been reported across the animal kingdom, indications of social culture in animals are limited.

Functional Relationships of Wood Anatomical Traits in Norway Spruce

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
The quantitative assessment of wood anatomical traits offers important insights into those factors that shape tree growth. While it is known that conduit diameter, cell wall thickness, and wood density vary substantially between and within species, the ...

Temporal Stability of Risk Preference Measures [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2012
We examine the temporal stability of risk preference measures obtained by different elicitation methods in a controlled laboratory experiment at two distinct times. Our results indicate remarkable temporal stability of risk measures at the aggregated level and temporal instability at the individual level.

A Global Mosaic of Temporally Stable Pixels for Radiometric Calibration of Optical Satellite Sensors Using Landsat 8

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Calibrating optical sensors has become a priority to maintain data quality and ensure consistency among sensors from different agencies. Achieving and monitoring radiometric calibration often involves the identification of temporally stable targets on ...

Persistent Core Populations Shape the Microbiome Throughout the Water Column in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Marine microbial communities are responsible for many important ecosystem processes in the oceans. Their variability across time and depths is well recognized, but mostly at a coarse-grained taxonomic resolution.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.
