Tympanoplasty with Island Cartilage or Temporalis Fascia: A Comparative Study
ORL, 2012Purpose: To compare clinical and audiological outcomes of the type 1 tympanoplasties where conchal cartilage (island graft) and temporalis fascia were used as the graft material. Procedures: In this retrospective study, the results of type 1 tympanoplasty operations (n = 50) in which cartilage and temporalis fascia

Temporalis Fascia in the Management of Gold Eyelid Weight Extrusion
Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2005A patient with a traumatic facial nerve palsy and resulting paralytic lagophthalmos underwent surgical implantation of a gold weight load, which extruded 4 weeks after surgery. Cicatricial contraction of the anterior lamella developed, and a full-thickness skin graft was used to correct the cicatrix.

Extended vascularized temporalis muscle-fascia flap
British Journal of Neurosurgery, 1994The use of an extended vascularized temporalis muscle flap is described. The deep layer of the temporalis fascia is partially everted over the temporalis muscle preserving its vascularity. A composite flap comprising temporalis muscle and its fascia attached along its superior border, is rotated for reconstruction of postoperative defects in the middle

Cartilage versus temporalis fascia in tympanplasty
2012Introduction: Retraction or perforation after reconstruction of the eardrum are well known problems in tympanoplasty. Different techniques and materials, including cartilage and temporalis fascia have been used in an attempt to prevent these problems. Today cartilage is more and more often used in middle ear surgery. It is therefore interesting to

Fascia Temporalis as Tympanic Graft: A Swedish and German Story
Surgical Innovation, 2021Fascia temporalis is the most widely used graft for reconstruction of the tympanic membrane. Its story began at the turn of the 1960s. Some historical reports credit the American otolaryngologist Lloyd A. Storrs (1922–1989), to be the first user of this material in tympanoplasty in 1961. In fact, this is not quite exact.

Use of Temporalis Fascia for Exposed Hydroxyapatite Orbital Implants
Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1998The hydroxyapatite implant (Bio-Eye, Intergrated Orbital Implant, Inc., San Diego, CA, U.S.A.) has gained increasing popularity as an orbital implant in recent years. Several complications may occur, including infection, exposure, extrusion, and various peg problems. Exposure of the implant appears to be the most common complication, ranging up to 21.6%

Free Fascia Temporalis Interpositioning as a Treatment for Wrist Ankylosis
Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, 2002The fascia temporalis is a thin and well-vascularized tissue and, for this reason, its use in reconstructive surgery is versatile. It can be used as an island flap in defects of the head and neck or as a free flap in reconstructions of different anatomic regions.
