Analysis and control of temporary overvoltages for automated restoration planning

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2002
The paper presents a new approach that assists power system restoration planning with regards to control of temporary overvoltages (TOVs) due to transformer energization. The frequency-domain analysis in combination with analytical calculations is applied to find an optimum resonance condition. The analytical equations are based on sensitivity analysis

Investigation of Temporary Overvoltage on Microgrid with Emphasis on Ferroresonance

International Journal of Engineering Research in Africa, 2018
Temporary overvoltages caused by primary and secondary islanding due to a fault on a hybrid microgrid of a wind energy and PV system that was connected to the grid, was considered in this study. Symmetry opening of three poles opening and nuisance opening of circuit breaker leading to ferroresonance were investigated using ATP/EMTP.

Temporary Detuning of Cablified Transmission Grids for Mitigation of Resonant Overvoltages

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2022
Changes in the power system such as an increased use of cables in transmission systems lead to lower resonance frequencies, a possible consequence being an increased risk for resonant overvoltages. This paper presents a method for protecting the power system from resonant overvoltages caused by transformer energization or fault clearing in the vicinity

Investigation of transient and temporary overvoltages in a wind farm

2012 IEEE International Conference on Power System Technology (POWERCON), 2012
Switching transients in wind farms are initiated by the action of circuit breakers during energization and deenergization events and also during occurrences and clearing of faults. In this paper, an investigation of transient and temporary overvoltages during wind farm switching events have been carried out by considering modeling methodology for all ...

Temporary overvoltages in the Vietnam 500 kV network

Proceedings of EMPD '98. 1998 International Conference on Energy Management and Power Delivery (Cat. No.98EX137), 2002
This paper investigates the temporary overvoltages (TOV) in the Vietnam 500 kV system. The modeling of transformers, lines and other elements in the Vietnam system is presented. Several events that can produce high TOV levels, such as three-phase load rejections, single-phase opening with the outage of a shunt reactor, the bypassing of a series ...

Temporary overvoltages due to ground faults in MV networks

2009 IEEE Bucharest PowerTech, 2009
The paper deals with the temporary overvoltages that build up in radial MV distribution networks following the inception of a 1-phase-to-ground fault (1-Φ -to-Gr). For extended cable/overhead MV distribution networks with ungrounded neutral, in case of low resistance faults at critical stretch of overhead lines, in [1] it has been evidenced that the ...

Effect of Temporary Overvoltages on Transmission Network Equipment

Australian Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2009
During abnormal conditions of under-frequency load shedding in the Powerlink Queensland high voltage network, it is possible that a temporary overvoltage (TOV) condition of from 1.15 p.u. up to 1.25 p.u. of the nominal voltage of 275 kV could occur. Because this overvoltage exceeds the maximum continuous operating voltage of the network (300 kV), it ...

Temporary overvoltages in the Vietnam 500 kV transmission line

ESMO '98 - 1998 IEEE 8th International Conference on Transmission and Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance Proceedings ESMO '98 Proceedings. ESMO 98 The Power is in Your Hands, 2002
This paper investigates temporary overvoltages (TOVs) in Vietnamese 500 kV transmission lines. The accurate modeling of the system components as well as lines, transformers, machines, loads, shunt reactors and surge arresters is presented by taking into account the saturation of transformers and shunt reactors and corona V-I characteristics.
