Initiation and progression of dental-stimulated temporomandibular joints osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, 2021
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), a site that is often impacted by osteoarthritis (OA), is biomechanically linked with dental occlusion. Tissue responses in TMJ condyle to biomechanical stimulation could be investigated by intervention of the dental occlusion in animals. Unilateral anterior crossbite, an experimental malocclusion, has been demonstrated to

A model for osteoarthritis of the temporomandibular joint

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1992
There is a need for a simple, reproducible animal model of advanced osteoarthritis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). In this study, gentle removal of the condylar articular layer in the sheep TMJ resulted in an eburnated condyle with peripheral osteophytes, thin or perforated discs, and temporal surface proliferation.

Condylotomy to Reverse Temporomandibular Joint Osteoarthritis in Rabbits

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2019
Osteoarthritis (OA) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is characterized by local tissue degeneration and pain. Treatments have been aimed at reducing symptoms, and only some can interfere with the progression of pathophysiologic changes caused by OA.

[Initial treatment of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis].

Reumatizam, 2007
The diagnostic procedure and the initial treatment of a female patient suffering from temporomandibular disorder is described. Osteoarthritis and the discopathy of the temporomandibular joint were diagnosed both clinically and by magnetic resonance imaging. Anxiety was confirmed by measuring instrument State-Trait Anxiety Inventory.

Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis in a British skeletal population

American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 1991
AbstractThe potential role of dental function in TMJ osteoarthritis is examined in an ancient British population. Human skeletal remains from five archaeological sites in England (n = 369) were studied to assess the associations between the presence of osteoarthritis and dental function variables, in particular antemortem tooth loss and dental ...

Nanomaterials for Temporomandibular Joint Osteoarthritis Therapy:A Mini-Review

Combinatorial Chemistry & High Throughput Screening
Osteoarthritis, particularly temporomandibular joint (TMJ) osteoarthritis (OA), posessignificant challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Recent studies suggest that nanomaterials holdconsiderable promise in treating TMJ-OA, showing validated efficacy in animal models.

Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis: a case report

2013
INTRODUCTION: Unilateral reduction in condylar size together with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) symptoms can be due to bone destruction as a result of TMJ osteoarthritis or other arthrides. Condylar hypoplasia due to childhood trauma or radiotherapy together with secondary TMJ problem should also be considered in the differential diagnosis.CASE REPORT:
