Biomechanics of Tendon Transfer
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1974There are just two variables that define the mechanical qualities of each muscle. One is its potential for generating tension, and the other is the distance through which tension can be exerted. Tension capability can be increased in a muscle by exercise. There is no way to increase potential for excursion except by reattaching a muscle at surgery with

The patellar tendon is well suited to sonographic evaluation because it is large and superficial and thus easily demonstrated. Sonography is a focused examination, concentrating on the area of pain and clinical suspicion. Its advantages over MR imaging are the speed of performance, better spatial resolution, capability of dynamic evaluation, and real ...

Use of a Previously Repaired Tendon for Tendon Transfer
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1987A patient in whom a previously repaired flexor digitorum superficialis tendon was used for transfer to correct a claw deformity is described. I have found this to be possible under optimal conditions of tendon repair, thus providing the hand surgeon with another choice of donor material.

Tendon Salvage and the Active Tendon Implant: A Perspective
Hand Clinics, 1985The purpose, as well as the value, of the two-stage system in the salvage situation is for the surgeon to perform all the reconstructive surgery needed at Stage 1. Nerves are repaired, vessels are repaired if necessary, the intrinsic system is inspected, a Swanson implant is added if needed, and pulleys are built.
