Tensile force monitoring on large winch-assist forwarders operating in British Columbia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The forest industry around the world is facing common challenges in accessing wood fiber on steep terrain. Fully mechanized harvesting systems based on specialized machines, such as winch-assist forwarders, have been specifically developed for improving ...

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Friction Stir Welding of Dissimilar Aluminum Alloy Combinations: State-of-the-Art

open access: yesMetals, 2019
Friction stir welding (FSW) has enjoyed great success in joining aluminum alloys. As lightweight structures are designed in higher numbers, it is only natural that FSW is being explored to join dissimilar aluminum alloys.

Selective Laser Melting Produced Ti-6Al-4V: Post-Process Heat Treatments to Achieve Superior Tensile Properties

open access: yesMaterials, 2018
Current post-process heat treatments applied to selective laser melting produced Ti-6Al-4V do not achieve the same microstructure and therefore superior tensile behaviour of thermomechanical processed wrought Ti-6Al-4V.

Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of High‐Nitrogen Alloyed FeCr(Si)N Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 14, July 2025.
The alloying element Nitrogen enhances stainless steel strength, corrosion resistance, and stabilizes austenite. This study develops austenitic FeCr(Si)N steel production via powder metallurgy. Fe20Cr and Si3N4 are hot isostatically pressed, creating an austenitic microstructure.

Proof of Concept of Integrated Load Measurement in 3D Printed Structures

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Currently, research on structural health monitoring systems is focused on direct integration of the system into a component or structure. The latter results in a so-called smart structure.
