Brazilian Tensile Strength Test Conducted on Ductile Unsaturated Soil Samples

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2020
Abstract The tensile strength of soil is often neglected. Because of the presence of matric suction, unsaturated soils may have substantial tensile strengths with implications for a range of geotechnical problems, such as slope stability, bearing capacity, and the integrity of clay liners.

An improved method for nondestructive shaping of tensile samples

Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1967
An improved nondeforming method for shaping tensile samples was developed using the principle of an immiscible layer electrolytic cell. The polishing apparatus produced samples which were dimensionally accurate, had uniform strain free surfaces, and were not undercut at the sample shoulders.

Tensile Strength of Multi-Year Pressure Ridge Sea Ice Samples

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 1985
Thirty-six constant strain-rate uniaxial tension tests were performed on vertically oriented multi-year pressure ridge samples from the Beaufort Sea. The tests were performed on a closed-loop electro-hydraulic testing machine at two strain rates (10−5 and 10−3 s−1) and two temperatures (−20° and −5°C).

Localized melting at separation of AISI 4340 steel tensile samples

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1991
Abstract Localized melting due to plastic deformation during the separation of tensile samples has previously been investigated in three commercial titanium alloys. In the present study similar melting accompanied by radial cracking has been observed in AISI 4340 steel tensile samples tested at quasi-static strain rates.

Acoustic investigations of the steel samples deformation during the tensile

Russian Journal of Nondestructive Testing, 2017
The paper presents an experimental study of ultrasonic surface waves propagation in the low carbon steel specimens with different degree of degradation of microstructure and mechanical properties, subjected to tensile deformation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and analyze the dependence between microstructure, mechanical and acoustic ...

Stress Distribution in the Sample Neck during the Tensile Testing

2011
In this chapter, the considered issue is presented on the base of two different models of plasticity theory and the detailed derivation of formulae for the average normalised axial stress in the minimal section plane is shown based on different classical approaches.

Tensile creep and recovery of compression molded polypropylene samples

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1963
AbstractA simplified creep apparatus was used to evaluate the creep and recovery of polyethylene and polypropylene. The creep resistance of polypropylene containing as much as 9% n‐heptane (boiling) soluble material is superior to that of linear polyethylene. The lower the boiling n‐heptane soluble content, the better the resistance to creep. The creep

In-situ tensile testing of propellant samples within SEM

2015
A tensile module system placed within a FEI NovaNanoSEM 650 Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was utilized in this work to conduct in-situ tensile testing of propellant material samples. This tensile module system allows for real-time in-situ SEM analysis of the samples to determine the failure mechanism of the propellant material under tensile force.
