Shape Effect and Accuracy Analysis of Rock Tensile Strength Test

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To investigate the influence of shape effects on the tensile strength of rocks, splitting tests were conducted on disc specimens with the same thickness-to-diameter ratio but different diameters using physical similarity simulation and numerical ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Toward Knowledge‐Based Workflows: A Semantic Approach to Atomistic Simulations for Mechanical and Thermodynamic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge‐based atomistic workflows are presented for mechanical and thermodynamic properties. By coupling modular simulations with ontology‐aligned metadata and provenance, Fe case studies on elastic behavior, defects, thermal properties, and Hall–Petch strengthening reveal how FAIR, queryable, and reusable simulation data can be generated. Mechanical

Investigation of strength recovery of recycled heat treated glass fibres through chemical treatments

open access: yes, 2013
The strength loss of thermally treated glass fibre (GF) at elevated temperature is well reported in literature. This phenomenon even occurs at short period of time such as 25 minutes.

Inherent tensile strength of molybdenum nanocrystals

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2009
The strength of Mo nanorods was measured under uniaxial tension. Tensile tests of lang 110rang-oriented single-crystalline molybdenum rod-shaped specimens with diameters from 25 to 90 nm at the apex were conducted inside a field-ion microscope (FIM). The

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

Absorption and Tensility of Bioactive Sutures Prepared for Cell Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Biodegradable scaffolds are widely used to transplant stem cells into various tissues. Recent studies showed that living stem cells can be attached to the surface of absorbable sutures in vitro.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

The Role of Material Structure in Compacted Earthen Building Materials: Implications for Design and Construction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Rammed earth is an earthen construction material and an ancient construction technique. It is formed by compacting layers of moist sandy loam subsoil into formwork which is then removed, exposing the material and creating a freestanding, monolithic ...

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.
