Direct Tensile Test Method for Shotcrete

open access: yesBuildings
This study substantiates the need for direct tensile strength testing of shotcrete and fiber-reinforced shotcrete, rather than relying on indirect methods, to accurately reflect material performance under biaxial stress conditions when used for ...

High-temperature tensile tester for ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Apparatus measures tensile strength of rigid, low-density ceramic materials at temperatures up to 1375 K. Tensile grips mate with tensile specimen and form top and bottom of lightweight furnace.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Identification of anisotropic tensile strength of cortical bone using Brazilian test. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
For a proper analysis of cortical bone behaviour, it is essential to take into account both the elastic stiffness and the failure criteria. While ultrasound methods allow complete identification of the elastic orthotropic coefficients, tests used to ...

Neurovascular Contacts in the Pathophysiology of Neuralgic Amyotrophy: An Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuralgic amyotrophy (NA) is a prevalent, monophasic, multifocal immune‐mediated neuropathy. A distinctive characteristic of the disease is the occurrence of nerve or fascicle constrictions and torsions (NA‐associated focal nerve lesions, NAFL). The pathophysiology underlying this phenomenon remains to be fully elucidated.

Horizontal Compression Test: A Proposed Method for Indirect Determination of Tensile Strength of Stiff Soils and Soft Rocks

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
Tensile strength is an important parameter in many engineering applications. In loess slopes, for instance, it governs the development and propagation of tension cracks that usually ultimately lead to crack–sliding and toppling failures, which are among ...

Apparatus facilitates high-temperature tensile testing in vacuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
An apparutus for heating refractory materials to high temperatures during tensile testing includes a water-cooled stainless steel vacuum chamber. This contains a resistance heater consisting of a slit tube of tantalum or tungsten to enclose the tensile ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting
