New Osmotic Tensiometer Development
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2021Abstract Climatic variations induce negative pore-water pressure or soil suction oscillations in unsaturated soil with daily and seasonal cycles. The dramatic suction changes of unsaturated soil in shallow depths can lead to engineering failures.

SUMMARY A newly designed tensiometer is described in detail. The tensiometer was used to test the tensile strengths of skin wounds on the trunks of 12 female laboratory Beagles at 5, 9, and 14 days after operation. The tensile strengths increased significantly from day 5 to day 14. The newly designed tensiometer could be used to obtain accurate in vivo

Multicell spinning drop interfacial tensiometer
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1978The design and performance characteristics of a thermostated multicell spinning drop interfacial tensiometer are described. The instrument features simple and reliable commercial components, ±1°C thermostating, reduced operational vibration, cells designed to reduce problems associated with gyrostatic equilibrium, and the capability to measure ...

Abstract A new technique is pesented for measuring soil water tension, using the relation between the dielectric behaviour and the water tension of an absorbent placed in the soil. A practical realisation of the dielectric tensiometer is described, consisting of a porous metal cylinder as an outer conductor, containing an inner conductor, and filled ...

Recent theoretical predictions indicate that a shift in surfactant transport mechanism from diffusion controlled to kinetically controlled occurs at highly curved interfaces where the length scale is on the same order as feature sizes in microfluidic devices.

A Modified Mercury Tensiometer
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1977Abstract The present paper introduces a modified type of Hg tensiometer. The manometer in this tensiometer uses the usual principal as for other Hg manometers. However, the main difference is that the Hg manometer is contained within the tensiometer body itself.
