Hybrid Tension Band Wiring for Olecranon Fractures
The Journal of Hand Surgery (Asian-Pacific Volume), 2023Tension band wiring (TBW) is a standard surgical technique for treating olecranon fractures (OFs). We devised a hybrid TBW (HTBW) combining TBW using wires with eyelets and cerclage wiring. Twenty-six patients with isolated OFs with Colton classification groups 1–2C were subjected to HTBW, and the data was compared with those treated with conventional

Tension band arthrodesis in the hand
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1986Tension band arthrodesis was performed on five metacarpophalangeal and 10 proximal interphalangeal joints of the hand. This technique provides the advantage of firm internal fixation with two pins and a wire, thereby permitting early active motion of the adjacent joints. Bony union was achieved in all 15 joints.

The Mattress-Tension-Band Technique
Techniques in Shoulder & Elbow Surgery, 2009Reestablishment of the native footprint during rotator cuff repair has been suggested to be important for optimizing fixation strength and healing potential. However, the complexity of most double-row repairs and the added surgical time remains a concern.

The tension band principle states that if a column is subjected to eccentric loading, there are not only axial compressive forces but also additional bending forces that give rise to further compressive stresses and tensile stresses. In our example, the resultant compressive stresses equal 110 kilopounds/cm2 and the tensile stresses equal 90 kilopounds/

Experimental investigation of the tension band in fractures of the patella
Injury, 2002We investigated the strain pattern developed in the anterior and posterior part of the fixed patella during knee motion. Eight fresh cadaver knees were used but two were excluded because of non reliable measurements due to misplacement of gauges. Two strain gauges were bonded in the midline of the anterior and two in the posterior surface of the ...

Tension-Band Stabilization of Transverse Fractures
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1984Fifty-two pig metacarpal bones were osteotomized and internally fixed using a variety of wiring techniques. Fixed constructs were then loaded to failure while several biomechanical parameters were measured. Tension-band stabilization provided superior strength, stiffness, and approximation. Crossed K-wire fixation was distinctly inferior with regard to

Tension band arthrodesis of small joints in the hand
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1993Two-hundred three patients underwent 290 tension band arthrodeses of the metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints of the hand. Nine patients (3%) failed to achieve bony union, four had painless pseudarthroses, and one patient had a small finger amputation. Twenty-five fusions (9%) required hardware removal.

Tension band plating of an olecranon fracture in a bull
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1997A 1,018-kg (2,240-lb), 6-year-old bull was admitted for evaluation of a left forelimb lameness of 7 days' duration. Radiographic views of the proximal portion of the left forelimb revealed a type-III olecranon fracture that was minimally displaced. Conservative treatment, including stall confinement and administration of anti-inflammatory drugs, was ...

ORIF Patella Fracture With a Tension Band Construct
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2017Summary: Patellar fractures can occur as a result of direct or indirect injuries. Indirect injury is more common and occurs when the patella fails in tension when the force exerted by the extensor mechanism exceeds that of the bone. Common mechanism of indirect injury is rapid knee flexion with fully contracted quadriceps muscle.

Tension-Band Arthrodesis of the Small Joints of the Hand
Orthopedics, 2001ABSTRACT A review of 72 cases of tension-band arthrodesis in the small joints of the digits was conducted. Fusion was achieved in all joints with no complications apart from 2 cases of superficial infection. No failure of the hardware was noted, although hardware was removed in 5 patients after fusion was attained due to technical failure or ...
