Spider Mites: Genetic Models to Inform Herbivore and Chelicerate Biology

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 48, Issue 5, May 2026.
Chelicerates include spiders, scorpions and ticks, and also spider mites that damage crops. Many of the features that make spider mites crop pests have facilitated their adoption as genetically tractable chelicerates. The expanding genetic toolkit developed using spider mites has potential to inform genetic studies in other chelicerates as well ...

An annotated checklist of Tenuipalpidae (Acari: Trombidiformes) of Ukraine

open access: yes, 2021
The previously published species of false spider mites known for the territory of Ukraine are revised. The list of Tenuipalpidae of Ukraine now includes 32 species of six genera. The genera with the highest number of species are Brevipalpus Donnadieu, 1875 and Cenopalpus Pritchard & Baker, 1958.

Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) as a Potential Biological Control Agent of Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 4, Page 335-342, April 2026.
First and third instar Chrysoperla externa showed efficient predatory capacity at low R. indica density, but second instar C. externa exhibits a density‐dependent predatory ability. The lacewing C. externa shows promise as a biocontrol agent for R. indica in coconut because it consumed 8362 R. indica females across all its larval instars.

Effect of Food on the Biological Aspects and Life Table Parameters of the Predatory Mite, Cheletogenes ornatus (Canestrini & Fanzago) (Acari: Cheyletidae) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection and Pathology, 2020
Biological characteristics, life table parameters and predation rate of the predatory mite, Cheletogenes ornatus (Canestrini & Fanzago) (Acari: Cheyletidae) were studied when reared on eggs and immature stages of different types of food; the date ...

The association of Mediterranean plant species with herbivorous arthropods and its effect on pest abundance in organic vineyards

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 1, Page 369-385, January 2026.
We determined the associations of native Mediterranean plant species located around organic vineyards with species of Auchenorrhyncha and phytophagous tetranychid and tenuipalpid mites, including important vineyard pests: Jacobiasca lybica and Tetranychus urticae.

First report of Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein, 1936) (Acari, Tetranychidae), found in citrus orchards in Eastern Sicily

open access: yesEPPO Bulletin, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 136-141, April 2025.
Abstract The presence of the brown citrus mite, or oriental red mite, Eutetranychus orientalis, a species in the EPPO A2 list of pests recommended for regulation as a quarantine pest, is reported in Italy for the first time. The mite has been found in several locations in the territory of Eastern Sicily, the largest citrus‐growing area of Italy.

The Family Tenuipalpidae in Bermuda (Prostigmata: Acari)

open access: yesThe Florida Entomologist, 1998
Four new host plant records and five new distribution records are reported for tenuipalpid mites collected in a survey of the phytophagous mites of Bermuda. A taxonomic key to the five tenuipalpid species and a host plant list are provided.
