Magnetic Response of Metamaterials at 100 Terahertz
An array of single nonmagnetic metallic split rings can be used to implement a magnetic resonance, which arises from an inductor-capacitor circuit (LC) resonance, at 100-terahertz frequency. The excitation of the LC resonance in the normal-incidence geometry used in our experiments occurs through the coupling of the electric field of the incident light

Efficient Large‐Area Graphene p‐n Junction Terahertz Receivers on an Integrated Optical Platform
An antenna‐integrated graphene Salisbury screen (AgSS) p‐n junction is engineered to detect radiation at 2.8 THz with room‐temperature noise equivalent powers < 300 pWHz−1/2, response time < 5 ns and a power dynamic range larger than four orders of magnitude.

Metasurface‐Assisted Optical Transparency of a Continuous Metal Film
Herein, a general strategy for realizing transparent conductors by sandwiching a continuous metal film between two metasurfaces is presented. A coupled‐mode theory model is developed to reveal the underlying physics and identify the optimal conditions.

Investigation of graphene assisted tunable terahertz metamaterials absorber
By using the graphene-SiO2-Si-dielectrics-metallic ground plane (GSiO2SiDM) structures, we investigate the tunable properties of graphene metamaterials (MMs) absorbers in the terahertz region, including the effects of operation frequency, Fermi level ...

Frequency‐Dependent Demethylation of Cancer DNAs by High‐Power Terahertz Radiation
Effective demethylation of cancer DNA is successfully demonstrated by resonant irradiation with high‐power terahertz (THz) waves at the 10 mW level, combined with metamaterial‐based THz filters. The dependence of spectral filtering on demethylation indicates that the resonant frequency of 1.6 THz of cancer DNAs plays a crucial role in reducing the ...

Detection of microorganisms using terahertz metamaterials
Microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria cause many human diseases and therefore rapid and accurate identification of these substances is essential for effective treatment and prevention of further infections. In particular, contemporary microbial detection technique is limited by the low detection speed which usually extends over a couple of days ...

Toroidal resonances in terahertz metamaterials [PDF]
Toroidal modes are unique type of electromagnetic excitations that have characteristic features different from the conventional electric and magnetic multipoles. At terahertz regime, metamaterial allows an effective way to introduce toroidal excitations, as they give flexibility in tailoring loss channels which are important for modulation, sensing ...
