Terahertz radiation and the skin: a review. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Biomed Opt, 2021
Terahertz (THz) radiation has demonstrated a great potential in biomedical applications over the past three decades, mainly due to its non-invasive and label-free nature. Among all biological specimens, skin tissue is an optimal sample for the application of THz-based methods because it allows for overcoming some intrinsic limitations of the technique,

Intense terahertz radiation: generation and application. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Optoelectron, 2021
Strong terahertz (THz) radiation provides a powerful tool to manipulate and control complex condensed matter systems. This review provides an overview of progress in the generation, detection, and applications of intense THz radiation. The tabletop intense THz sources based on Ti:sapphire laser are reviewed, including photoconductive antennas (PCAs ...

Bow-Tie Cavity for Terahertz Radiation [PDF]

open access: yesPhotonics, 2018
We report on the development, testing, and performance analysis of a bow-tie resonant cavity for terahertz (THz) radiation, injected with a continuous-wave 2.55 THz quantum cascade laser. The bow-tie cavity employs a wire-grid polarizer as input/output coupler and a pair of copper spherical mirrors coated with an unprotected 500 nm thick gold layer ...

Terahertz radiation of microcavity dipolaritons [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2019
We propose the use of dipolaritons-quantum well excitons with a large dipole moment, coupled to a planar microcavity-for generating terahertz (THz) radiation. This is achieved by exciting the system with two THz detuned lasers that leads to dipole moment oscillations of the exciton polariton at the detuning frequency, thus generating a THz emission. We

Phase-Insensitive Scattering of Terahertz Radiation [PDF]

open access: yesPhotonics, 2017
The nonlinear interaction between Near-Infrared (NIR) and Terahertz pulses is principally investigated as a means for the detection of radiation in the hardly accessible THz spectral region. Most studies have targeted second-order nonlinear processes, given their higher efficiencies, and only a limited number have addressed third-order nonlinear ...

Emission of terahertz radiation from SiC [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2009
We report the emission of strong coherent broadband terahertz radiation from 6H-silicon-carbide (SiC) excited with optical pulses. The measured terahertz spectral signal-to-noise ratio is better than one thousand. We determine that the terahertz radiation is generated via second order optical nonlinearity (optical rectification).

Generation of terahertz radiation by AlGaAs nanowires [PDF]

open access: yesJETP Letters, 2015
Terahertz emission by AlGaAs nanowires grown on a GaAs substrate under excitation by femtosecond optical pulses has been observed. It is demonstrated that THz emission occurs via excitation of photocurrent in the nanowires. The dynamics of photoinduced charge carriers is studied via the influence of an electron—hole plasma on terahertz radiation. It is

Terahertz radiation of jerk photocurrent [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2020
We compute the jerk current tensor of GaAs, Si, and ferroelectric single-layer GeS, GeSe, SnS, and SnSe. We find peak values of the order of $10^{14}$ mA/V$^3$s$^2$ in GaAs and Si within the visible energy spectrum and an order of magnitude larger in single-layer GeS, GeSe, SnSe and SnS.
