Ellipsometry in the terahertz range for liquid identification
2009 34th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves, 2009We present a method to determine the optical constants of a liquid at a given frequency in the terahertz range, by using a backward-wave oscillator as a continuous-wave source and an ellipsometric measurement setup consisting of two wire-grid polarizers.

Tunnelling through the terahertz range
Physics World, 1997When semiconductor nanostructures are subjected to a strong high-frequency radiation field, they exhibit a type of quantum transport known as photon-assisted tunnelling. The radiation helps the electrons to tunnel between two regions of the semiconductor that are separated by a small barrier, leading to increased current flow.

Nanostructures in the Terahertz Range
2014With advances in technology, terahertz imaging and spectroscopy are beginning to move out of the laboratory and find applications in areas as diverse as security screening, medicine, art conservation and field archaeology. Nevertheless, there is still a need to improve upon the performance of existing terahertz systems to achieve greater compactness ...

Terahertz-range quantum well photodetector
SPIE Proceedings, 2005We have designed and fabricated GaAs/AlGaAs QWIP photodetector for THz range of spectrum (3THz, 100 μm). To evaluate suitability of this type of detector for real-time THz imaging, a prototype of a small array have been built by integrating detector elements with cryogenic readout electronics.

The Talbot effect in the terahertz spectral range
35th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves, 2010The Talbot effect in the terahertz spectral range has been first observed and used in metrology applications: measurement of distance, determination of radiation wavelength, and real-time detection of wavefront distortion.

Spectroscopy of Photonic Molecules in the Terahertz Range
Frontiers in Optics 2008/Laser Science XXIV/Plasmonics and Metamaterials/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2008We present photonic molecules in the terahertz range. Two dielectric whispering gallery mode resonators with matched resonance spectra are coupled over tens of resonances. Frequency splitting of multiple modes is observed in excellent agreement with theory.

Investigation of metamaterials for terahertz frequency range
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Metamaterials are artificial materials with unusual properties that do not exist in nature and basically could consist of subwavelength metallic patterns printed on dielectric substrate. In this paper, we present a theoretical and experimental investigations of metamaterials designed for THz applications.

Chirp-Pulse Terahertz Range Profiling
2007Abstract : Terahertz (THz) range profiling is investigated for several cm-size metal targets. Aperiodically-poled lithium niobate crystals are used to generate a chirp-pulse THz signal, which is used to probe several targets. The reflected waveforms from different targets show distinctive features that permit differentiation of the targets.

Cavity design of a terahertz-range gyrotron
2010 Abstracts IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2010The project's purpose is to design a microwave source of 670 GHz range radiation with enough power to cause breakdown in the air. The device in question will be a gyrotron oscillator and part of the challenge is designing an interaction cavity for this device.

Spectroscopy of Nafion in terahertz frequency range
Journal of Applied Physics, 2014We report results on the terahertz (THz) spectroscopy of polymer Nafion. Using THz pulse spectroscopy and refined post-processing algorithms based on the ill-posed spectroscopic inverse problem analysis, we find the complex dielectric permittivity of Nafion to be in the range 0.15–1.5 THz.
