Encoding direction when interpreting proximal terms

Language and Cognitive Processes, 2007
The location of an object is often described by spatially relating it to a known landmark. The spatial terms used in such descriptions can provide various types of information. For example, projective terms such as above indicate direction but not distance, whereas proximal terms such as near indicate distance but not direction.

Long-Term Results of the Palmar Arthrolysis of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint

Handchirurgie · Mikrochirurgie · Plastische Chirurgie, 2002
Palmar arthrolysis of the proximal interphalangeal joint is seldom carried out as an isolated treatment of contractures. The operation is usually performed in connection with treatment for a primary illness. Although intra-operative extension of the interphalangeal joint is normally completely achieved, the postoperative results show deficiencies in ...

Intermediate-term outcome of hemiarthroplasty for comminuted proximal humerus fractures

Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 2017
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of hemiarthroplasty for comminuted proximal humerus fractures and to verify the risk factors for functional and radiologic outcomes. We treated 29 comminuted proximal humerus fractures by hemiarthroplasty with a low-profile prosthesis and a bone block graft, with an average follow-up period of 53.9 ...

LONG‐TERM RECURRENCE PATTERNS FOLLOWING PROXIMAL GASTRIC VAGOTOMY

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1989
Two hundred and forty‐two consecutive patients were prospectively followed up following elective proximal gastric vagotomy (pgv) for duodenal, pyloric or prepyloric ulceralion. There was no operative mortality and no case of lesser curve necrosis. Five to 15 years follow‐up have been completed. One hundred and eighty‐three patients were assessable (80%

Distraction for Proximal Interphalangeal Joint Contractures: Long-Term Results

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2013
To report the medium- to long-term outcomes of joint distraction using a unilateral external fixator in the treatment of chronic post-traumatic proximal interphalangaeal (PIP) joint contractures.Between September 2001 and October 2011, 94 consecutive patients (98 PIP joints) with a mean age of 43 years (range, 17-69 y) were treated with external ...

Long-term dynamics in proximity networks in ants

Animal Behaviour, 2012
Social insects rely extensively on interactions to coordinate their activities. Some studies have recently explored several attributes of insect colonies from a network perspective, providing evidence of variation in connectivity patterns among group members. The temporal stability of interaction networks, however, has rarely been examined.

[Long-term results of selective proximal vagotomy].

Wiener klinische Wochenschrift, 1984
Highly selective vagotomy was performed in 361 patients over the past 10 years. The mortality was 0.3% in uncomplicated, and 1.6% in complicated duodenal ulcer. With a mean follow-up period of 52 months the recurrence rate was 7.4%. The known advantages of this operation, namely low mortality and low postoperative morbidity (dumping 0.8%, diarrhoea 0.8%

The long-term results of proximal gastric vagotomy.

International surgery, 1984
Since 1969 we have performed proximal gastric vagotomy (PGV) in 514 patients. PGV without drainage was performed, before 1978, in 304 patients with one death (0.3%) and of these, 242 have been followed for from five to 13 years. Good clinical results were achieved in 78% but there were 32 recurrent ulcers.
