Concentration‐dependent mutational scanning probes the cellular folding landscape of α‐synuclein in yeast

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The misfolding and aggregation of α‐synuclein is a central molecular event in the etiology of Parkinson's disease and related disorders. α‐synuclein misfolding and pathology are both concentration‐dependent, but it is not clear precisely how changes in concentration alter the folding landscape within cells. Whereas most conventional structural

Intact Proteoform Analysis by Capillary Electrophoresis–Mass Spectrometry. Are We There Yet?

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 5, 28 January 2026.
Mass spectrometry (MS) and top–down proteomics (TDP) have emerged as powerful tools to decipher proteoform‐level information, advancing biological insight and translational research. This study unites leaders in capillary electrophoresis (CE) and MS from multiple institutions across the globe to showcase the reproducibility, unique information, and ...

Geographic Divergence and the Genomic Basis of Reproductive Diapause in Drosophila triauraria

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 3, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Adjusting reproduction timing to environmental cues is essential for lifetime fitness. In many insects, reproductive diapause shows clinal variation along environmental gradients such as photoperiod and temperature. How such continuous trait variation may be encoded at the molecular level and maintained in the presence of gene flow remains ...

Loss of E3 ligase HvST1 function substantially increases distal crossover frequency

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1325-1341, February 2026.
Summary This study characterizes the function of a grass‐specific E3 ubiquitin ligase, HvST1, in regulating synapsis and crossover (CO) formation during meiosis in barley (Hordeum vulgare). In large‐genome cereals, COs are predominantly restricted to distal chromosomal regions, limiting genetic recombination and breeding flexibility.

Contemporary hybridization among Arabis floodplain species creates opportunities for adaptation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1542-1557, February 2026.
Summary Hybridization between closely related species is increasingly recognized as a major source of biodiversity. Yet, whether it can create advantageous trait combinations while purging harmful alleles remains unknown. To address this question, we studied Arabis nemorensis and Arabis sagittata, two endangered species that currently hybridize in a ...
