Shock Termination of Tachycardia

2020
A 68-year-old man with ischemic cardiomyopathy (NYHA Class II, left-ventricular ejection fraction 26%) underwent implantation of a prophylactic dual-chamber ICD (Medtronic EnTrust™ D154ATG) 2 years ago. His medications include lisinopril 20 mg daily, carvedilol 12.5 mg daily, simvastatin 40 ms daily, and aspirin 325 mg daily. The ICD was programmed for

Termination Shock Surfing

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
The recent Voyager 2 (V2) observations of the termination shock (TS) indicate that it is a plasma shock like no other in the heliosphere with dynamics and structure heavily influenced by the presence of an energized population of pickup ions (PUIs). The ‘unexpected’ finding of a cold plasma in the heliosheath with very little heating of the solar wind ...

Dusty Termination Shocks

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004
In astrophysical settings, termination shocks where strong stellar wind outflows interact with the surrounding environments tend to take place in dusty regions. Just to name a few, star formation regions, planetary nebulae, supernova remnants and active galactic nuclei are all good examples.

The terminal shock in jets

2006
We find that for reasonable choices of our parameters the compression ratio does not depart very much from the hydrodynamical value and stays between 3 and 4. If synchrotron electrons are produced via first order Fermi processes, then observations of spectral indices suggest compression ratios of about 4.

Multifractal Turbulence at the Termination Shock

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
We consider the multifractal spectra of fluctuations of the interplanetary magnetic field strength before and after shock crossing by Voyager 1 near 85 and 95 AU from the Sun, correspondingly. We show that the multifractal scaling of magnetic fields is asymmetric in the outer heliosphere, in contrast to the symmetric spectrum observed in the ...

The solar wind shock termination

Advances in Space Research, 1986
Abstract We analyse the possibility that the shock termination of the solar wind should occur at a heliocentric distance of 50 a.u. It is concluded that this is possible if the density of the interstellar medium near the Sun is of the order of 0.5 cm −3 , or the pressure of low energy cosmic rays (less than about 300 MeV/nucleon) is of the order of 6×

The termination shock: Physical processes

Advances in Space Research, 1995
A brief overview of the physics thought to determine the properties of the heliospheric termination shock is given and the central role of hot interstellar pick-up ions and cosmic rays is emphasized.

Detecting the termination shock and beyond

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1999
Based on Voyager 2 observations, a numerical model of the heliosphere, which includes the mutual interaction of the interstellar medium, solar wind plasma, and interstellar hydrogen, is employed to speculate on the possible crossing of the termination shock by the Voyager spacecraft.

Shock After Arrhythmia Termination

2020
A 58-year-old male with a history of congestive heart failure and an ICD comes to clinic after receiving an ICD shock while mowing the lawn. The patient was not symptomatic during the episode. His left ventricular ejection fraction is 25% and he is being treated with appropriate medications including an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor and a ...

Magnetic fields at the solar wind termination shock

Nature, 2008
A transition between the supersonic solar wind and the subsonic heliosheath was observed by Voyager 1, but the expected termination shock was not seen owing to a gap in the telemetry. Here we report observations of the magnetic field structure and dynamics of the termination shock, made by Voyager 2 on 31 August-1 September 2007 at a distance of 83.7 ...
