Indigenous Knowledge Organization: A Study of Concepts, Terminology, Structure and (Mostly) Indigenous Voices

open access: yesPartnership: The Canadian Journal of Library and Information Practice and Research, 2011
Due to the lack of published information (especially in Canada) on modified classification systems and thesauri for describing and organizing Aboriginal materials, I set out to conduct a survey on this topic.

Lattice Structures for Bone Replacement: The Intersection of Bone Biomechanics, Lattice Design, and Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review outlines how understanding bone's biology, hierarchical architecture, and mechanical anisotropy informs the design of lattice structures that replicate bone morphology and mechanical behavior. Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of orthopedic implants that incorporate such structures using a range of engineering materials ...

Continual Learning for Multimodal Data Fusion of a Soft Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Models trained on a single data modality often struggle to generalize when exposed to a different modality. This work introduces a continual learning algorithm capable of incrementally learning different data modalities by leveraging both class‐incremental and domain‐incremental learning scenarios in an artificial environment where labeled data is ...

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

Data‐Driven Multi‐Objective Optimization of Large‐Diameter Si Floating‐Zone Crystal Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
This study presents a surrogate‐based Multi‐Objective Optimization framework for Floating Zone silicon crystal growth. An ensemble of Neural Networks is trained on simulation data and combined with Genetic Algorithms to explore trade‐offs in process parameters.

Structural and Functional Characterization of EXPO‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, 3D electron tomography (ET), cryo‐ET, and immunogold transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are employed to characterize plant extracellular vesicles (EVs) under physiological conditions. EVs are classified into three distinct categories according to their size, content, and molecular‐marker profiles. Furthermore, Exo70E2‐positive medium

Achievements of Tibetan medicine and their reflection in Kalmyk Buddhist medical terminology: Tibetan-Oirat parallels, their semantics and etymology (based on written sources on the “Clear writing” and their russian translations)

open access: yesNomadic Civilization: Historical Research
This article is devoted to the study of the Kalmyk branch of Tibetan medicine — a practically little-studied object of research. This topic was usually considered from a historical and cultural perspective. Meanwhile, the terminology of this subject area
