Annales de la Société entomologique de France (N.S.), 2009Abstract Termites are an abundant and diverse group in the Neotropics with about 500 species representing 83 genera. The paucity of the termite fauna recorded from Ecuador is due, in part, to a lack of deliberate surveys. A sex-linked ring quadrivalent in Termitidae (Isoptera)
Chromosoma, 1978A sex-linked ring of four multiple has been identified at male meiosis in 21 African species of Termitidae. Since this ring occurs only in the males it is clear that it represents a multiple sex chromosome system of the X1X2Y1Y2♂∶X1X1X2X2♀ type.

It occurs on the upper and lower wing surfaces and is composed of a single row of small (3–5 μm long), thorny papillae at the anterior margin and numerous micrasters all over the wing membrane (size 6–8 μm×5–7 μm; density 9200–9600/mm2).
