Emergence of terpene cyclization in Artemisia annua

open access: yes, 2015
The emergence of terpene cyclization was critical to the evolutionary expansion of chemical diversity yet remains unexplored. Here we report the first discovery of an epistatic network of residues that controls the onset of terpene cyclization in ...

Analytical Approaches to Address Challenges in the Analysis of Cannabinoids in Vascular Matrices Using Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Phytocannabinoids are bioactive metabolites derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. They have garnered attention due to their recreational uses and therapeutic potential. Although various analytical strategies have been employed for their analysis, mass spectrometry (MS) coupled to chromatographic separation is superior due to its sensitivity ...

Influence of crosslinker on the properties of terpene‐based poly(high internal phase emulsion)s

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Myrcene was polymerized and crosslinked with hydrophilic monomeric and oligomeric dimethacrylates within high internal phase emulsions to produce hierarchically porous bio‐based poly(high internal phase emulsion)s with tuned morphology and mechanical properties.

Insights into Leptocybe invasa resistance in Eucalyptus: phenotyping, genotyping and in silico approaches

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The gall wasp, Leptocybe invasa, poses a significant global threat to Eucalyptus cultivation, by causing substantial economic losses. The objective of this study was to differentiate between resistant and susceptible genotypes by morphological ...

Robust β‐myrcene block copolymer elastomeric vitrimers

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Myrcene‐based vitrimeric elastomers were compared: statistical (poly(styrene‐stat‐myrcene‐stat‐AAEMA)] versus ‘hard–soft’ diblock (poly(styrene)‐block‐poly(myrcene‐co‐AAEMA)). The diblock's ability to anchor the glassy poly(styrene) blocks in a self‐assembled microstructure was effective – leading to four times higher tensile stress and ten times ...

CHARACTERIZATION AND PHYSIOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF VOLATILE TERPENE COMPOUNDS (VTCs) IN POSTHARVEST NEEDLE ABSCISSION OF BALSAM FIR (ABIES BALSAMEA (L.) MILL.)

open access: yes, 2013
In the quest to understand the physiological basis of postharvest needle loss in balsam fir, we hypothesized that, volatile terpene compounds (VTCs) have a role in needle abscission.

Kinetics of anionic polymerization of β‐myrcene in hydrocarbon solvents

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
The process of anionic polymerization of β‐myrcene in hydrocarbon solvents was examined by kinetic studies and quantum chemical calculations. Abstract The kinetics of anionic polymerization of β‐myrcene initiated by sec‐butyllithium were examined in saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon solvents, i.e. cyclohexane, cyclohexene, 4‐vinylcyclohexene and dl‐

Exploring novel terpene scaffolds synthesised by artificially expressed terpene synthases

open access: yes
Terpenoids constitute a vast class of natural compounds with diverse biological functions, predominantly utilized by organisms for defense and reproduction. Terpenoids quite often exhibit bioactivities that are utilized as drugs or pharmaceuticals.

Unsaturated biobased polyesters from bicyclic α‐pinene‐based diols

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
We present the synthesis of four biosourced unsaturated polyesters made from chiral terpene‐based diols and esters of renewable diacids. The resulting materials harbor a bicyclic pinene ring in their backbones which leads to enhanced thermal properties while still conferring susceptibility to enzyme hydrolysis for chains having a cis alkene.

Efficient heterocyclisation by (di)terpene synthases

open access: yes, 2015
While cyclic ether forming terpene synthases are known, the basis for such heterocyclisation is unclear. Here it is reported that numerous (di)terpene synthases, particularly including the ancestral ent-kaurene synthase, efficiently produce isomers of ...
