New Isomalabaricane-Derived Metabolites from a Stelletta sp. Marine Sponge

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In continuation of our studies on a Vietnamese collection of a Stelletta sp., sponge we have isolated two new isomalabaricane triterpenoids, stellettins Q and R (1 and 2), and four new isomalabaricane-derived nor-terpenoids, stellettins S-V 3–6, along ...

Terpenoid Biosynthesis in Prokaryotes

open access: yes, 2014
Prokaryotic organisms (archaea and eubacteria) are found in all habitats where life exists on our planet. This would not be possible without the astounding biochemical plasticity developed by such organisms. Part of the metabolic diversity of prokaryotes was transferred to eukaryotic cells when endosymbiotic prokaryotes became mitochondria and plastids

Novel Solventless Extraction Technique to Preserve Cannabinoid and Terpenoid Profiles of Fresh Cannabis Inflorescence

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Despite its use by humans for thousands of years, the technology of cannabis usage and extraction is still evolving. Given that the primary pharmacological compounds of interest are cannabinoid and terpenoids found in greatest abundance in capitate ...

De novo formation of an aggregation pheromone precursor by an isoprenyl diphosphate synthase-related terpene synthase in the harlequin bug. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Insects use a diverse array of specialized terpene metabolites as pheromones in intraspecific interactions. In contrast to plants and microbes, which employ enzymes called terpene synthases (TPSs) to synthesize terpene metabolites, limited information ...

Comparison of an Offline SPE–GC–MS and Online HS–SPME–GC–MS Method for the Analysis of Volatile Terpenoids in Wine

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The aroma profile is an important marker for wine quality. Various classes of compounds are responsible for the aroma of wine, and one such class is terpenoids. In the context of this work, a validated gas chromatography−mass spectrometry (GC−

An unbiased approach elucidates variation in (S)-(+)-linalool, a context-specific mediator of a tri-trophic interaction in wild tobacco

open access: yes, 2019
Plant volatile organic compounds (VOCs) mediate many interactions, and the function of common VOCs is especially likely to depend on ecological context.

Multipoint Coordinative Capture of Olefinic Substrates Utilizing Metal‐Carbon Bonds by Macrocyclic Complex

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We have developed a macrocyclic tetranuclear palladium complex, which has four coordination sites within its inner cavity as a host molecule. The complex captured squalene (C30H50), a linear triterpene with six C═C double bonds, through multipoint palladium‐carbon bonds, and formed a unique host‐guest complex with a folded‐squalene structure.

Fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda Smith) feeding elicits differential defense responses in upland and lowland switchgrass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is a low input, high biomass perennial grass being developed for the bioenergy sector. Upland and lowland cultivars can differ in their responses to insect herbivory.

Photocatalytic Polyene Cyclization to Cyclopentyl Thioethers with Consecutive Quaternary Centers in Fluorinated Alcohols

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
A photocatalytic strategy enables efficient cyclization of polyenes to cyclopentyl thioethers with consecutive all‐carbon quaternary centers. Using 2,4,6‐triphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate in 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoroisopropanol, the method proceeds via a thiyl radical mechanism, offering high yields and good diastereoselectivities.
