Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Proposal for an Experiment to Test a Theory of High Temperature Superconductors

open access: yes, 1999
A theory for the phenomena observed in Copper-Oxide based high temperature superconducting materials derives an elusive time-reversal and rotational symmetry breaking order parameter for the observed pseudogap phase ending at a quantum-critical point ...

Understanding Entrepreneurial Commitment: A Test of Side-Bet Theory

open access: yesM@n@gement
This paper contributes to the burgeoning literature on entrepreneurial commitment by providing a first empirical investigation of Howard Becker’s side-bet theory in the context of nascent entrepreneurship. We investigate how different forms of commitment

Test of internal-conversion theory with a measurement in 111Cd

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We have measured the K-shell and total internal conversion coefficients for the 150.8-keV E3 transition in 111Cd: αK = 1.449(18) and αT = 2.217(26) respectively.

An application of item response theory to psychological test development

open access: yesPsicologia: Reflexão e Crítica, 2016
Item response theory (IRT) has become a popular methodological framework for modeling response data from assessments in education and health; however, its use is not widespread among psychologists. This paper aims to provide a didactic application of IRT

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Test of the Linear-No Threshold Theory: Rationale for Procedures

open access: yesDose-Response, 2005
A tightly reasoned justification is presented for the procedures used in our test of the linear-no threshold theory of radiation carcinogenesis by comparing lung cancer rates with average radon exposure in U.S. counties.

A Comparison of Classical and Modern Measures of Internal Consistency

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Three measures of internal consistency – Kuder-Richardson Formula 20 (KR20), Cronbach’s alpha (α), and person separation reliability (R) – are considered.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A critical test of the mode-coupling theory of the glass transition

open access: yes, 2010
The mode-coupling theory of the glass transition predicts the time evolution of the intermediate scattering functions in viscous liquids on the sole basis of the structural information encoded in two-point density correlations. We provide a critical test
