Preserved Spermatogenesis and Hormonal Function in Men Receiving a Pretomanid Regimen (BPaMZ) for Pulmonary Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Pretomanid is a component of the World Health Organization‐recommended treatment regimen for drug‐resistant tuberculosis in patients aged ≥ 14 years. While preclinical rodent studies identified testicular toxicity as a potential clinical liability at elevated doses, no corresponding effects were observed in nonhuman primates nor clinical hormone ...

PATTERN OF GENITAL INJURY IN MALES WITH TUBERCULOSIS

open access: yesТуберкулез и болезни лёгких, 2014
Four hundred and sixty-seven male patients with genital tuberculosis (TB) were examined. Scrotal TB was detected in 372 (79.7%) patients. Fifty-five (11.8%) patients with the unilateral process were found to have isolated epididymal TB; primary isolated ...

Effect of porcine somatotropin on metabolism, testicular size and sperm characteristics in young boars

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pST injections on metabolism, testicular size, and sperm characteristics in young boars. Sixty 22-day old piglets were divided into two groups: pST (n=30) and Control (n=30). The pST group was submitted

Reproducibility of Serum Androgen Concentrations by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry in Healthy Male and Female Athletes

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Box and whiskers plots show the distributions of serum testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT), androstenedione (A4), and the ratios of T/FDHT and T/A4. ABSTRACT Detection of androgen doping relies on mass spectrometry‐based methods to detect natural endogenous and exogenous androgens in urine and serum. To distinguish exogenous administration from

Fhod3 in zebrafish supports myofibril stability during growth of embryonic skeletal muscle

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Actin filament organization in cardiomyocytes critically depends on the formin Fhod3, but a role for Fhod3 in skeletal muscle development has not yet been described. Results We demonstrate here that in zebrafish mutated for one of two fhod3 paralog genes, fhod3a, skeletal muscle of the trunk appears normal through 2 days post ...

A Study on Spermatopoietic Function of the Testicle II. Effects of Various Drugs on Spermatopoietic Function of the Testicle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
Spermatopoietic function has been evaluated by microscop i c examination of spermatozoid, development and number of sperma of the testicle, and measurements of body weight, body length, and size of the testicle of matured rats to whom drugs being suppo ...

Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.
