Synergistic Toxicity of Low‐Concentration Metal Mixture on Male Rats: Reproductive, Renal, and Hepatic Effects

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mining plays a crucial role in economic development, but improper management can lead to severe environmental degradation. Particularly for iron ore, mining generates vast amounts of tailings often stored in unstable dams. This study aims to investigate the toxicological impacts of environmentally relevant concentrations of metals mixture ...

Feline Testicular Biometry and Gonadosomatic Index: Associations Among Conventional Measurements, Mathematical Estimates, and Seminal Parameters

open access: yesAnimals
The development of biometric techniques in domestic animals has greatly advanced scientific practices in wildlife research. The association between seminal characteristics and body and testicular biometry enables the selection of suitable breeders ...

Juvenile and Pubertal Exposure to Polystyrene Nanoplastics Impairs Epididymal Structure and Sperm Quality in Mice

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nanoplastics (NPs) are emerging environmental contaminants capable of crossing biological barriers, accumulating in tissues, and disrupting physiological pathways. The male reproductive system is particularly vulnerable during the postnatal period, a developmental window characterized by intense testicular differentiation and epididymal ...

Prevalence of HCMV, HHV‐6, and HSV‐1/2 in the semen of men attending infertility clinics and their association with semen parameters

open access: yesUroPrecision, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Viral infections have been identified as potential disruptors of male reproductive health. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), human herpesvirus 6 (HHV‐6), and herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV‐1/2) DNA in semen samples from fertile and infertile men within the potential impact of ...

Testicular Echobiometry and Sperm Characterization in Oncilla (Leopardus tigrinus) From the Caatinga Biome

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
We describe testicular echobiometry and sperm characterization in oncilla (Leopardus tigrinus) from the Caatinga biome, Ceará, Brazil. ABSTRACT Among neotropical small felids, the Leopardus tigrinus is classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, but studies on reproductive morphology and physiology are scarce for ...

Effect of Salinity Stress on Gut–Brain–Gonad Axis in the Red‐Eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The increase in salinity leads to changes in the gut microbiota and metabolites of Trachemys scripta elegans, affecting the synthesis and secretion of neurotransmitters or precursors, which can inhibit the secretion of reproductive hormones and affect the self‐renewal and differentiation process of spermatogonial stem cells.

Testicular tumour, could it be benign? A clinical conundrum

open access: yes, 2019
Testicular vasculitis (TV) is a cause of testicular infarction (TI) which can lead to significant morbidity and rarely mortality. Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN) is the most common vasculitis that leads to testicular infarction (TI).

Seismic Signaling Associated With Breeding‐Season Spatial Behavior in the Subterranean Plateau Zokor

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Eospalax baileyi shows seismic signals associated with nasal‐pad striking and corpuscle‐like structures potentially relevant to mechanosensation. Artificial seismic disturbance was based on the temporal structure of breeding‐season recordings, and pregnancy prevalence was 3/10 in the interference plot and 8/10 in the control plot.
