Are we ignoring sex differences in haematological malignancies? A call for improved reporting

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
A large body of data indicates that there are sex differences in the incidence of haematological malignancies, their clinical presentation and molecular profiles, and possibly also their aetiologies. Furthermore, sex‐related differences exist in treatment tolerability and outcomes.

The dark sides of the GPCR tree ‐ research progress on understudied GPCRs

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract A large portion of the human GPCRome is still in the dark and understudied, consisting even of entire subfamilies of GPCRs such as odorant receptors, class A and C orphans, adhesion GPCRs, Frizzleds and taste receptors. However, it is undeniable that these GPCRs bring an untapped therapeutic potential that should be explored further.

Vitamin D deficiency induces erectile dysfunction: Role of superoxide and Slpi

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Epidemiological studies suggest a relationship between vitamin D deficiency and erectile dysfunction (ED). We hypothesized that vitamin D deficiency or vitamin D receptor (VDR) knockout causes ED and analysed the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Serum Estradiol Concentrations With Estradiol 0.06% Gel in Transgender and Gender‐Diverse Adults

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Transgender and gender‐diverse individuals undergoing estradiol therapy for gender affirmation are typically treated with oral or transdermal estradiol, with transdermal estradiol recommended for those aged > 45 years. There are limited data evaluating estradiol gel in gender‐affirming hormone therapy regimens. We aimed to assess the

Estrogen synthesized in the central nervous system enhances MC4R expression and reduces food intake

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Estrogen is regulated by the rate‐limiting enzyme aromatase. This study examines how neuroestrogens, estrogen produced in the brain, regulate appetite through the hypothalamus. Using ovariectomized, aromatase knockout, and brain‐specific aromatase‐restored mice, the study found that neuroestrogens suppress appetite by influencing genes like Mc4r.

Past research and future directions in understanding how birds use their sense of smell

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
Our understanding of the functional importance of olfaction to birds has improved over the past 60 years, largely as the result of experimental studies testing how birds use their sense of smell in different contexts. As it is impossible to measure directly which odours birds can detect, we rely on measuring behavioural responses to scent cues or ...
