Tetracyclines continue to be used extensively on a world-wide basis because of their unusually broad antimicrobial spectrum and their relative safety. The first generation tetracyclines are used almost exclusively via the oral route; the second generation tetracyclines may be used orally or intravenously. Intramuscular administration is not recommended.

Amino-Functionalized Al-MOF for Fluorescent Detection of Tetracyclines in Milk.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2019A fluorescent method for detection of tetracyclines (TCs) in milk was developed by using the NH2-MIL-53(Al) nanosensor synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal method. The nanosensor had a crystalline nanoplates structure with rich groups of -NH2 and -COOH.

S,N-Doped carbon dots for tetracyclines sensing with a fluorometric spectral response
, 2020S,N-doped carbon dots (S,N-CDs) were facilely prepared via a hydrothermal method by using thiourea and citric acid (CA) as precursors. The as-prepared S,N-CDs exhibited high stability in aqueous solution and were applied for fluorometric detection of ...

The tetracyclines are inexpensive drugs that are of primary value in treating nonpregnant women who have acute urethral syndrome or endocervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis. They are contraindicated in pregnancy because they are injurious to fetal teeth and bone.

Tetracyclines accumulation in soil environment potentially threatens agroecosystem safety. Interestingly, biochar could clean up organic pollutants, but to what extent biochar affects the removal of tetracyclines is unknown. To investigate it, five types
