512 Tetraoxanes induced ROS production and activation of caspase 3 in HeLa cells [PDF]

open access: bronze, 2010
It was demonstrated that mixed steroidal tetraoxanes inhibit cancer cell proliferation at micromolar level through an apoptotic mechanism. It will be interesting to see if these compounds may possibly induce oxidative stress, which could lead to ...

Next-Generation Antimalarial Drugs: Hybrid Molecules as a New Strategy in Drug Design. [PDF]

open access: yesDrug Dev Res, 2010
Malaria is a disease that affects nearly 40% of the global population, and chemotherapy remains the mainstay of its control strategy. The global malaria situation is increasingly being exacerbated by the emergence of drug resistance to most of the ...

Efforts Made to Eliminate Drug-Resistant Malaria and Its Challenges. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomed Res Int, 2021
Since 2000, a good deal of progress has been made in malaria control. However, there is still an unacceptably high burden of the disease and numerous challenges limiting advancement towards its elimination and ultimate eradication. Among the challenges is the antimalarial drug resistance, which has been documented for almost all antimalarial drugs in ...

Antimalarial peroxides: The first intramolecular 1,2,4,5-tetraoxane [PDF]

open access: diamondJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2002
An intramolecular steroidal 1,2,4,5-tetraoxane has been synthesised in six steps starting from methyl3-oxo-7?,12?-diacetoxy-5?-cholan-24-oate. The synthesised 1,2,4,5-tetraoxane has moderate in vitro antimalarial activity against P. falciparum strains (IC50 (D6) = 0.35 ?g/mL; IC50 (W2) = 0.29 ?g/mL).

The Impact of Activity-Based Protein Profiling in Malaria Drug Discovery. [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem, 2022
Activity‐based protein profiling has impacted several biological research areas by providing functional fingerprints of enzymatic activity in complex proteomes. We discuss the main achievements of ABPP in the field of malaria research, including characterization of pathologically‐relevant enzymes, target and mechanism deconvolution of antimalarials ...
