Isolation and complete genome sequence of a bacteriophage lysing Tetrasphaera jenkinsii, a filamentous bacteria responsible for bulking in activated sludge

Virus Genes, 2012
The Nosticoida limicola filamentous morphotype is held responsible for incidents of bulking and foaming in activated sludge. Members of the actinobacterial N. limicola II have been isolated and grown in pure culture and shown to belong to the genus Tetrasphaera, and play an important role in phosphorus removal.

Efficient amino acid capture from sludge fermentation by Tetrasphaera enhances simultaneous nitrification, endogenous denitrification and phosphorus removal

Water Research
The simultaneous nitrification endogenous denitrification and phosphorus removal (SNDPR) process shows great potential for carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus removal. However, its application is challenged by limited carbon availability and the strong reliance of glycogen-accumulating organisms (GAOs) and traditional polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (

An integrated system combining Tetrasphaera-dominated enhanced biological phosphorus removal with sulfur autotrophic denitrification to enhance biological nutrients removal

Science of The Total Environment
This study developed a two-stage process, including Tetrasphaera-dominated enhanced biological phosphorus-removal (EBPR(T)) sequencing batch reactor (SBR), followed by sulfur autotrophic denitrification (SADN) SBR, to achieve advanced nutrients removal from low VFAs wastewater.

Insights into synergistic metabolism mechanisms of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in Tetrasphaera-dominated partial denitrifying phosphorus removal and anammox (PDPRA) process

Water Research
The partial denitrifying phosphorus removal coupled with anammox (PDPRA) technology holds great promise for the simultaneous removal of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus. However, its widespread application is hindered by the instability of nitrite accumulation and the strong dependence on volatile fatty acids (VFAs) of traditional denitrifying ...
