The effect of pH on organic carbon uptake and biological phosphorus removal by Tetrasphaera polyphosphate accumulating organisms [PDF]
Tetrasphaera polyphosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) have been found in greater abundance and may remove more P in full-scale enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) water resource recovery facilities (WRRF) worldwide than the more extensively ...

Abstract Tetrasphaera were recently identified based on the 16S rRNA gene as among the most abundant polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) in global full-scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR).

Proposal of Shuttleworthella gen. nov. and Nostocoides gen. nov. as replacement names for the illegitimate prokaryotic generic names Shuttleworthia and Tetrasphaera, respectively. [PDF]
The prokaryotic generic name Shuttleworthia Downes et al. 2002 is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of the plant genus Shuttleworthia Meisner 1840 and the mollusk genus Shuttleworthia Baker 1941 (Principle 2 and Rule 51b(5) of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes).

Scanning electron microscopy of bacteria Tetrasphaera duodecadis
SummaryThis study reports the characterization of the Tetrasphaera duodecadis bacteria and the techniques used therein. In order to evaluate the morphological characteristics of the T. duodecadis bacteria scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used throughout its different growth stages.

Technical note: Flow cytometry assays for the detection, counting and cell sorting of polyphosphate-accumulating bacteria [PDF]
In the context of the ecological sustainability of phosphorus, emerging evidence for the ubiquitous presence of polyphosphate-accumulating bacteria in natural environments invites efforts to reveal their roles in the biogeochemical cycle of phosphorus ...

Mediterranean inland saline shallow lakes are divided into different categories according to their salinity and conservation status, which determine the structuration of the prokaryotic communities and their carbon‐related metabolisms. ABSTRACT Mediterranean inland saline lakes may play an important role in the carbon cycle due to the metabolic ...
