Enhancing Methane Production Through Co‐Digestion of Sewage Sludge, Citrus Waste and Brewery Spend Grain With Natural Zeolite: Mechanisms and Microbiome Analysis

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 17, Issue 5, May 2025.
In this study, a novel strategy for improvement the multicomponent co‐digestion of sewage sludge, citrus waste and brewery spent grain by adding natural zeolite was proposed. The introduction of zeolite led to enhancement of methane production and its kinetics.

Metagenomic analysis of microbial consortia native to the Amazon, Highlands, and Galapagos regions of Ecuador with potential for wastewater remediation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 3, June 2024.
This study explores the metagenomes and wastewater treatment potential of native microalgae–bacteria consortia from Ecuador's Amazon, Highlands, and Galapagos regions under both light and continuous dark conditions. All consortia displayed higher nutrient removal efficacies under light, with the Amazon and Galapagos consortia outperforming the ...

Using meta‐analysis to understand the impacts of dietary protein and fat content on the composition of fecal microbiota of domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris): A pilot study

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 13, Issue 2, April 2024.
This meta‐analysis investigates the impact of dietary crude protein and fat on the fecal microbiota composition in healthy dogs. While overall community changes were minimal, individual taxonomic alterations were observed with increasing levels of protein and fat.

Assessing the performance of polyphosphate accumulating organisms in a full‐scale side‐stream enhanced biological phosphorous removal

open access: yesWater Environment Research, Volume 96, Issue 1, Page 1-148, January 2024.
A full‐scale side‐stream enhanced biological phosphorous removal (S2EBPR) was monitored to examine the correlation between polyphosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) activity and seasonal/operational parameters, analyze the microbial community, and assess S2EBPR feasibility.
