Tetrazolium salts and formazans

2020
Tetrazolium salts discussed here are of the 2-H type, and contain one or more five-membered heterocyclic rings, each of which carries a delocalized positive charge. Such a tetrazolium compound may be represented by a pair of Kekule forms. Tetrazolium salts can be reduced to formazans by a variety of mild reductants, including those of enzyme-catalyzed ...

Radiolysis of solutions of tetrazolium salts

Russian Chemical Reviews, 1998
Published data on radiolysis of liquid (mainly aqueous, water–alcohol and alcoholic) and solid [mainly in poly(vinyl alcohol)] solutions of tetrazolium salts are generalised. The mechanism of radiolytic transformations of these compounds is discussed. Their application in dosimetry of ionising radiation is considered in detail.

Evaluation of Bacterial Activity Based on the Electrochemical Properties of Tetrazolium Salts.

Analytical Chemistry, 2023
This study focused on the electrochemical properties of tetrazolium salts to develop a simple method for evaluating viable bacterial counts, which are indicators of hygiene control at food and pharmaceutical manufacturing sites.

A photoenhanced oxidation of amino acids and the cross-linking of lysozyme mediated by tetrazolium salts.

Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP, 2021
Tetrazolium salts (TZs) are pervasively utilized as precursors in the dye industry, colorimetric probes in enzyme assays and for exploring nanomaterial toxicity, but its own toxicity is not investigated enough so far.

Anti-Plasmodium activity of tetrazolium salts

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
We have previously reported that sulfated cyclodextrins inhibit the invasion of Plasmodium merozoites by interacting with receptors present on the surface of erythrocytes. The observation that tetrazolium salts formed stable complexes with the inhibitory sulfated cyclodextrins suggested that tetrazolium salts might have anti-Plasmodium activity as well.

Quantitating Intestinal Ischemia with Nitroblue Tetrazolium Salts

Journal of Surgical Research, 1995
We evaluated a spectrophotometric nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction assay as a technique to quantitate experimental intestinal ischemic injury. NBT is a tetrazolium salt that is reduced by mitochondrial coenzymes to form a blue formazan dye which can be measured on a spectrophotometer.
